Description
A particularly nasty gobling residing in abandoned castles and keeps along the northern border of England. Despite being shod with iron shoes, he's very quick and snatches, with his bird-like talons, lonely children into his den and uses their blood to dye his cap red, whithout which he's said to lose his powers.Related content

Nice depiction of this lil' bad guy... I do specially like that wicked instrument in his hand... Seems like some kind of grappling hook... What it is truly for?

It is actually a grappling hook -a real weapon from the 1600's. German, I believe. You thrust it at someone's neck, and once they get inside the two jointed prongs, they can't get out. The spikes around the inside of the "collar" make the subject keep as still as he can, so he won't tear his flesh.

Seriously, why has no one ever tried to make even a cheap movie about the original Redcap legend? It'd be a novel take on the tired old slasher villain.

I remember seeing a makeup photo of a Red Cap years ago, and I assumed that it was for a film or some TV show. But I haven't heard anything more about it. Red Cap does appear in a Hellboy comic as "Iron Shoes."

I've read that one. They also did an animated adaptation of it in the 'Blood & Iron' animated Hellboy film.
