Please tell me why Che is such a beautiful, majestic, and fantastic man.

Che Guevara was a hypocrite. He spent a lot of time lecturing about cruel dictators and promoting the Communist vision of a worker's paradise, but turned out to be a rather cruel authoritarian himself. He led the execution of thousands of the Cuban middle-class after the Communist takeover in Cuba, actually executing many himself. He always took advantage of "free speech" but never allowed anyone else to do so. And his methods of shutting them up were to murder them.

I never said he was a beautiful, majestic, fantastic man - you did!

After Fidel and Che took over Cuba they rounded up all the war criminals who served under Batista, gave them a trial, and if they were found guilty of being a war criminal, then yes, they were shot. They killed the very people that were killing and torturing other people - those people deserved to die.

Have you read any books on Che?

I thought you all might like to know that Che Guevara was actually a clinical sadist and prejudice against black people. He murder hundreds of people and made free expression a crime in Cuba. In his diary, he talks about the thrill he got from shooting people and wrote "The negro is lazy and indolent, and spends all of his money on frivalities on booze."

Questions, comments, cocerns my ignorant liberal friends?

Quotes from The Motorcycle Diaries (the book):

"The blacks, those magnificent examples of the African race who have maintained their racial purity thanks to their lack of an affinity with bathing, have seen their territory invaded by a new kind of slave: the Portuguese." --Ernesto 'Che' Guevara

"To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary...These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution! And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate. We must create the pedagogy of the The Wall! (El ParedΓ³n)" --Ernesto 'Che' Guevara

"The black is indolent and a dreamer; spending his meager wage on frivolity or drink; the European has a tradition of work and saving, which has pursued him as far as this corner of America and drives him to advance himself, even independently of his own individual aspirations." --Ernesto 'Che' Guevara

"The episode upset us a little because the poor man, apart from being homosexual and a first-rate bore, had been very nice to us, giving us 10 soles each, bringing our total to 479 for me and 163 1/2 to Alberto." --Ernesto 'Che' Guevara

"The first person we hit on was the mayor, someone called Cohen; we had heard a lot about him, that he was Jewish as far as money was concerned but a good sort." --Ernesto 'Che' Guevara

"Blind hate against the enemy creates a forceful impulse that cracks the boundaries of natural human limitations, transforming the soldier in an effective, selective and cold killing machine. A people without hate cannot triumph against the adversary."

Excerpt from something I wrote late at night once:

"...Che was eventually named β€œSupreme Prosecutor” and sentenced to death a documented 180 'suspected' war criminals from Fulgencio's regime. In fact, there is a video of Col. Cornelio Rojas being executed. Che ordered him to be executed without the right to a trial. [link] After he was done dishing out his fair share of capital punishment, he served in Cuba's government while writing several books about guerrilla warfare.

During the period of the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was Anti-American and pro Soviet. He also wanted a nuclear war so that he could rebuild the earth after cleansing it.

He was captured by the USA in Bolivia in 1965. The Bolivian Army executed him (he was killed by a drunken Bolivian sergeant)."

Thank you for showing us how to take quotes - and jokes - out of context.

Give me any book or speech and I'll find you a few sentences that make the author look bad when you take them out of context.

I don't understand why he's portrayed as a revolutionary rather than a terrorist. Your art is great... but I'd welcome an explanation.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter...

Generally speaking, a "terrorist" is simply a person who uses guerrilla tactics to fight for a cause that you don't support, while a "freedom fighter" is a person who uses guerrilla tactics to fight for a cause that you DO support.

Hey, I understand what you say about this picture being used by capitalism and pop culture. I think I once read a quote by Che Guevara's son Ernesto (yes, him too), who was saying that this picture was starting to make them sick. As he said, they had even saw it on T-shirts from the Italian fascist party o.o .

On the other hand, this is Alberto Korda's picture... Do you know that, while this picture is the photography most reproducted in the world, Korda never got a penny from it? He had given it "as a gift" to an editor who needed a photo of Che Guevara to make posters (after the Che's death), and the story of the photo began.
Korda saw the success of his photo and got nothing, but he didn't care, because it was for the good cause, as he said. If I'm not wrong, he finally ended up suing Swatch which was making watches with the photo, won and got something like 100 000 $ ... And gave it all to an association for children.
I'm not especially egoistic, but such altruism stun me.

So I just thought I'd tell the story of the photo . So you can know it's what the meeing of TWO great men gave.

Great art, though Che lead me from Communism to Anarchism. The debate this work spawned is just great...
There are a couple of interesting ways that Che as a pop-icon can be taken. One is to see it and say, "well, this means we're winning." Maybe if people see his image enough they'll stop and ask, "what did that guy really stand for anyway." The other way is to say that Che is slowly being killed... If you can beat it, sell it.
The way they ulitmately beat the hippies was to sell hippie stuff. Winston Smith had a great perspective on this when he said something along the lines of, "Flower power was so pretty it was coopted by Klenex, so we made Punk so ugly no one would want to touch it." But yet, punk is becoming a mainstream thing.
Every time we reject their culture, they come running to us to buy it up as quickly as they can. Some have said that proves our victory, and if we can manage to solidify that by spreading our message too than our victory will be complete. If we can get Jay-Z to act like a communist than maybe we can acutally get somewhere... otherwise it may die with us.

Awesome work!

As to markmizzle's comment: America is trying to turn Che into a pop icon so people think "hey there is that cool guy I saw on MTV" instead of "hey there is a man who stood for what is right and truly was/is an influential revolutionary" They are killing Che the only way they can: with the ignorance of America's pop-centered youth, hypocritical teeny-boppers, and all-around capitalism.

great vector work

I think Che's a great revolutionary and all but seriously, there is just way too much exposure on this guy...I'm all for his beliefs and his ideals but his face is just everywhere now...it's nothing against YOUR work, or anyone else's Che Guevara artwork, because art is fine, as long as it truly IS artistic, but when you see his face on Target t-shirts and MTV commercials and Jay-Z wearing a shirt it's just gone way too far...the guy stood for anti-capitalist beliefs yet people are makin money off of his image...I hate that...and I'm a Jay-Z fan too but Jay-Z is up to his ASS in Capitalism...he owns his own clothign line and he jsut lives so lavishly with this money...where the fuck does he get the balls to wear a Che Guevara t-shirt? and why does Target sell Che t-shirts? and like 2 days ago I saw this MTV Summer ad thing with a whole wallpaper of Che Guevara faces rotating and changing colors...like he's a fucking pop icon or logo...I mean sure, he's turned into one NOW, but atleast let the guy's message be spread around, not just his image

sorry for rambling, this really has nothing to do with YOUR work, I liked it, but there's just way too much Che

Thank you for the pointing that out! The man was totally anti-capitalism. But then again: what do you expect from Capitalists to not even understand what the hell the man was on about.

This picture is really good to; I'd like to hang it on my wall too!
