Description
"Uuuuugghh" Tukson groaned as he trudged up the staircase from his book store up to the Delsole family apartment. It had been a long day at Tukson's Book Trade, as the annual "Bookstravaganza" was underway all this week and had attracted customers from all over the kingdom. Tukson had been putting in long hours all throughout the week long sale, but it was finally over, and the puma faunus felt like death. His back was killing him, his knees were shaky, and every part of him just felt heavy and hard to move, it was a struggle just making it up the single staircase.Tukson loved his business, books were his passion after all. But running an entire store all by himself was exhausting, especially during a week like this last one. Helping customers, stocking shelves, not to mention all the management responsibilities it entailed. Needless to say, it was a lot for one man. He'd ask his family for help, but his daughter, Oreonna, was still far to young to handle the responsibilities required for working in the store, no matter how eager the cat girl was to help. Plus Tukson wanted her to enjoy being a kid for at least a little while longer. You're not six forever, he always told her.
Neo on the other hand was a more... complex issue. Tukson loved his wife dearly, but she lacked certain... social skills that were required for customer service. For starters, the small woman barely spoke in public unless it was absolutely necessary, a personal choice on her part. Even when the two had first started seeing each other it took Tukson a while to break past that invisible bubble Neo seemed intent to keep others out of. Still to this day, the ice cream woman only really felt comfortable speaking around her husband and daughter as well as a few other close friends.
The second issue being that Neo didn't handle criticism well. Tukson recalled the time an angry customer had come in while he'd been busy sorting deliveries out back, and Neo had been left at the counter. Long story short, the customer was less than pleased with his purchase and was looking for a full refund. Tukson had dealt with this particular customer before more than once. The faunus had always suspected the man thought Tukson was running a library and was simply reading the books the returning them to regain his money. This alone wouldn't be so bad, but the man's attitude was always very aggressive, maybe he just had a deep rooted hatred for Tukson's kind, or maybe he was just one of those naturally angry people, but whatever the reason, the customer was always painfully rude and Tukson was forced to stand there and smile as the man ranted and raved at him.
But the customer hadn't been dealing with the burly faunus that day, instead a short pink and brown haired woman was waiting for him when he came in. Apparently (as Neo tells it) the man got a little too loud and aggressive that day and all it took was one finger being prodded in the small woman's shoulder to set her off. When Tukson came out of the back room he found the usually rowdy (and very muscular) man being held face down on the counter by the much smaller Neo who had one of the man's arms wrenched behind his back. Luckily she hadn't had her weapon on her, Tukson didn't want to think about what would have happened then. However Tukson would be lying if he said there wasn't something oddly satisfying about listening to the aggravating man beg for the tiny Neo to let him go, and the fact that Tukson hadn't seen hide nor hair of him since that day certainly sweetened the deal, but that whole situation was a good sign that Neo was not "employee of the month" material either.
The tall faunus yawned as he reached the top of the steps, opening the door to the apartment the three of them shared. He was almost painfully tired, but his day wasn't over yet. It was nine o'clock, and he knew that Oreonna was patiently waiting in her bedroom for her father to come and read her nightly story. Tukson dragged his exhausted body through his kitchen and into the living room, he stopped there for a moment and looked longingly at his favorite arm chair, sitting invitingly in the corner.
Tukson looked up at the clock on the wall. He had a few minutes before nine, he would just sit for a second before going to read to his daughter. His mind made up, Tukson plopped into his recliner, the old chair conforming to his bodies shape after years of use. Tukson sighed contently, closing his eyes for a moment before shooting them open again. He couldn't fall asleep, not yet. The faunus had to stay awake, he saw the book he'd been reading in his spare time on the table next to him, it was a good way to kill time and keep from falling asleep. So Tukson pulled his reading glasses out of his pocket (he hated getting old) and opened up to the page holding his bookmark and started reading. The tall faunus yawned once more, the book was entertaining, but it his head was starting to ache a bit. Maybe he could just rest his eyes for a second, just... one.. second...
------------------------------------------------
Oreonna rolled over and looked at the clock next to her bed. She yawned sleepily as she watched the seconds tick by. Dad was late. She wasn't upset though, she knew he'd been hard at work all week long at his store, but he was never late before. The kitten faunus was barely keeping her eyes open at this point, the young girl had a busy day herself, the adventures of a six year old were sometime just as tiring as any adults full time job. She wouldn't sleep yet though, she didn't want to miss story time.
Oreonna sighed before throwing off her covers and getting out of bed. She felt like she was already half asleep, but was determined to track down her tardy father. In her absent minded state she didn't realize she was dragging her blanket with her as she left her room. It didn't take her long to find Tukson, he was in the living room just outside were she slept, sound asleep in his chair, a book in his lap, and his reading glasses had slipped down and were resting on the edge of his nose. Her fathers snoring alone was enough to give away his position.
Oreonna huffed in annoyance, stomping over to her dad grabbing him by his leg and shaking it. "Dad? Dad!" she whispered sharply, not wanting to wake her mom as well "It's story time! Wake up!"
Unfortunately, Tukson was a remarkably heavy sleeper and continued snoring loudly. The cat faunus yawned again, rubbing her eye sleepily. Her body was begging her to go back to bed, but she refused. Instead Oreonna climbed up into her fathers lap to get closer to his ears in hope of stirring the slumbering faunus. As she ascended her father, she accidently knocked the book he'd been attempting to read onto the floor. To her credit, Tukson did snort slightly at the disturbance, but soon the sound of his heavy breathing returned as he fell back under sleeps spell. Oreonna grabbed a handful of her fathers shirt and tried shaking him awake. But even if she hadn't been half asleep, the small girl lacked the strength to cause enough of a stir to wake Tukson. Sighing in defeat, Oreonna leaned against her dads chest, it was surprisingly comfy actually. Then she finally noticed the blanket she'd been unknowingly transporting with her. The tired girl shrugged and wrapped the blanket around herself and laid down in the snug place between her father and the arm of the chair. This way she'd be nearby in case he woke up and they could get to story time faster, right?
The tired cat girl lasted all of a minute there before she too fell asleep.
------------------------------------------------
A couple hours later Neo woke up in her and Tukson's bedroom alone. She sat up in bed and immediately noticed her portable heater of a husband was missing, the space next to her surprisingly still cold and vacant. Neo had (shocking even herself) turned in early that night, fully expecting her husband to join her at some point. The small woman rolled her eyes, no doubt Tukson was still slaving away at his desk downstairs. She would always offer to help, but you break one customers arm ONCE and suddenly you're not allowed to assist with watching the register. I mean, the guy had probably almost completely regained full mobility of that hand by now, so what was the big deal? That scumbag was lucky she hadn't taken him up to the roof and dangled him off the edge. Just because she lived a more... quiet lifestyle nowadays, doesn't mean she was going to let assholes push her around.
She knew she could be confrontational, impulsive, and maybe a little bloodthirsty. That stuff was just hard wired into her, it was a part of who she was. But, even after years with him, she kept finding new parts of herself with Tukson in her life. Sides like love, compassion, and hell, she was a mom now! That was a shock in and of itself. Not to mention feeling happy and most importantly, safe for the first time in a long time. The quiet girl couldn't help but smile a little at the thought. Then she shook her head to clear the sentimental thoughts for a moment before deciding to journey downstairs and drag her husband back to bed, by force if necessary.
Much like her daughter, Neo didn't have to go far. As soon as she opened her bedroom door she had to stop and immediately fight the urge to 'awwwwwww' loudly at what she saw.
There was her husband, sleeping in the recliner in the corner, his head back with a pair of reading glasses hanging precariously on the edge of his chin, and a hilarious amount of drool leaking out of the corner of his open mouth. This alone would be enough to make her burst out laughing, but then she saw the small bundle with black and white cat ears curled up at his side. Oreonna's sleeping form snuggled up in a blanket was almost too cute for the ice cream woman to bear.
After managing to contain herself, Neo decided to do several things. First; She went back into her bedroom and grabbed a pillow off her bed. Then, she took out her scroll and took several pictures of the sleeping duo. Then, she quietly removed the hanging glasses off her husbands face, placing them on the desk next to him. After that, she kissed the top of her daughters head right between her cat ears, causing the black one to twitch and a sleepy smile to spread across Oreonna's face. Finally, Neo pulled the reclining lever on the chair, causing the chair to lay back giving Tuksons head a bit more support. The two in the recliner stirred slightly at the jarring movement, but apparently Oreonna had inherited her fathers impressive sleeping ability and neither one awakened.
Neo smiled at the two, then she raised an eyebrow as another idea crossed her mind. It was pretty impolite for her family to have an impromptu slumber party without her after all. The pink and brown haired woman slid the pillow she'd grabbed under her husbands head, she wouldn't be needing it after all. With that, she slipped into the recliner on the side opposite her daughter and spread the blanket wrapped around Oreonna to cover all three of them. She settled into the spot, resting her head on Tuksons slowly rising and falling chest. Yeah, she could definitely get used to sleeping like this.
The overwhelming cuteness of the situation combined with her already tired mind had her asleep almost immediately. But with her last few moments of being awake she reached over and grabbed her daughters tiny hand beneath the covers.
How exactly had she gotten so lucky? She really didn't know.
-------------------------------------------------------
Tukson's eyes shot open.
Oh no. He'd fallen asleep.
How long had he been out? What about Oreonna? What about Neo? He'd made a promise to-
Then Tukson noticed he was staring up at the ceiling, he didn't remember sitting in this positon when he'd closed his eyes, so how did he get here? His new perspective caused him to look down and notice his wife and child sleeping on top of each side of him, the three of them taking up the entirety of the recliner.
The puma faunus stared confusedly at this for a few moments before shrugging and wrapping his arms around the two of them. Whatever this was, and whatever the circumstances were that led to it, he really didn't care. He was tired, he was comfortable, the answers could wait till morning.
Welp! There's a one shot that no one asked for! Because a comic wasn't enough, was it? Am I crazy? Do I care?
All excellent questions.
I refuse to answer any of them.
Just enjoy some long overdue Literal Sundae fun.

How the hell have you made me so attached to one character that didn't even make half an episode?

This is what I was put on earth to do. If I can make just a few people care about Tukson just a little bit, then my work is done.

It's moments like these that family is the best thing to have. Hey maybe you could do a Christmas special.

Maybe I will. With my work ethic though, it'll be done by Valentine's Day.

(Awww... wonderful cuteness. Also, the 'Nyawn' shirt made me chuckle, and the accompanying story's pretty nice. All in all, lots to enjoy. Adorableness in pure form.)

Cute families always make me smile!
I love the story too! I can appreciate the reason why Neo isn't allowed to work in the bookstore anymore and to hear her complain about it actually made me laugh. So good job on that front. I also like how Neo takes pictures of her family before sleeping with them. I mean if you're going to write a psychotic serial killer with a soft spot for her "portable heater of a husband" and her adorable hardened-pastry-based feline daughter, do it with some style AMIRITE?
The adventures of a six-year-old girl must be extremely tiring! Adventures such as rolling around in the muddy backyard, doing whatever kids do and playing with her... nonexistent friends.
...actually in this timeline, does Oreonna have any friends at her age? I mean there's Auburn, but she still a fetus during this story. There's always Oran and Maybelle but I'm still not sure where they stand in all this... so...
Yeah.
Keep up the awesome stuff!

Hm. That's an excellent question. May's still off at another school fawning over Violet, (Or at least it was around those years I suppose) and Nicky's busy with the Hand and enjoying the last few years of mom being alive. I mean I suppose Oreo could have come across Oran a bit earlier in this timeline. I could see her befriending the annoying cyborg boy at school that no one else wants to put up with. The thought of Oran sitting all by himself, still getting used to his new prosthetics, probably still recovering mentally from what happened to his dad and him. Then a cautious and shy Oreonna approaching him and then never being able to get rid of him. It's cute to me.
I think where I'm at in my story I'm finding the two of them play off each other well. I mean, most of there conversations boil down to Oran says something dumb and Oreo rolls her eyes at him, smiles, and responds with sarcasm. It just works for me I suppose.
Making Neo a bit more... family friendly, was the hardest part of writing this. I mean all we know for certain about the character is she seems to take great pleasure in causing direct physical harm to others. So it's fun to sprinkle in little moments like breaking a dudes arm for fun in this story. Nice to make it seem she isn't completely "domesticated", for lack of a better term.

I'm not gonna lie, I completely forgot about Violet. Jeez, some father I am!
But thanks for reminding me of her. I just now posted something I meant to a while back.
I'll probably do a story like that when I have free time. It sounds too cute to pass up, if we're being totally honest here. Just the idea of Oran still getting used to his prosthetic limbs while simultaneously recovering from having his father murdered right in front of him is amazing, but I think throwing Oreonna in the mix will piece together one very important plot point that harks back to when Oran was talking with Noire about how he was able to cope with his troubles.
Obviously Oreonna was the one to help him out. And because of that Oran won't stop following her around in an attempt to make her become his friend and the very thought of that...
...you're gonna hate me for this...
...makes me kinda ship them together.
I KNOW canonically Oran and Nichol get together but it's just too good to pass up! Besides, what use is shipping if we're not allowed to explore branching paths? For example, what would have happened if Oran and Oreonna hooked up? Would they have heterochromatic Faunus children like canon? And furthermore what if Neo and Roman hooked up? Would Oreonna even exist or would it be someone totally new?
LET ME HAVE THIS ONE, OKAY?! I'M STILL YOUNG AND IMPRESSIONABLE, GODDAMMIT!!
Dude, this Neo was perfect though. It's a great blend of canon Neo and mom Neo; a woman who deeply cares about her family but also doesn't mind a healthy dose of ripping someone's head off and throwing it in a lake. You nailed it!

Meh. Ship what you gotta ship, brother. No judgement here.
I mean if you're thinking about making this a alternate timeline thing, then yeah I could easily see the two of them developing a Nora/Ren style relationship.
I could also see that in the MayxOreonna and OranxNichol universe that maybe if the two met as kids their friendship might have developed into more and they actually tried dating a bit once they got a little older. But it didn't work out and luckily they managed to keep it from destroying their friendship. Oh god. And then Maybelle and Nichol find out in present day and they both freak out over it but Oreonna and Oran are just like "meh, whatever, it happened." And then everything's just super awkward for like a week. Shit. I like that. Gotta save that one I think.
The idea of potential children for the two is just... that's too far down the rabbit hole for me to even consider.
Buuuuuuuuuut, the idea of Roman and Neo is interesting to me... so there's a possibility of a human, orange and brown haired Oreonna in that universe (I imagine Neo would insist on the name still). Intriguing... oh god, we are falling to damn far down this rabbit hole, aren't we?

Yeah, Oran and Oreo dating before Beacon is Canon now. Canon to one timeline anyway. It's just too cute to pass up. Hopefully you remember this conversation because it would be a shame and a waste to forget about it.
I had a speak with that other guy about Oran and Oreonna having kids and he brought up the fact that two Faunus of different species having a kid would be like a roulette of possibilities. They could be a mischievous monkey or a chameleon that hid themselves where their parents couldn't find them and I'm getting too many ideas PLEASE HELP ME!!!
I'll probably take up alternate Oreonna as well where her father was Roman instead. Sounds like it could be an interesting shot, y'know?

And, on the subject of children, remember that World of Remnant: Faunus stated that two different subspecies of Faunus would yield a random subspecies child. Hyena + Cat = Who the heck knows?

Imagine Oran and Oreonna's kid being something they couldn't possibly handle like a monkey or a snake.
OR A CHAMELEON!!!
I am very proud of myself for bringing up that possibility. Thanks though!
