Description
edit I named her Marabel ~-----
I was on such a roll designing characters yesterday for a collection of draw to adopts that i decided i really wanted to have another character myself
If im correct this character is a mythical creature named Echidna ? Im not sure if its really the name of the specie , seeing how Echidna was a character in the Greek mythology . Shes half snake half human , lets keep it with that haha
>> people were telling me that she could be considered a Naga ^^
edit thanks to everyone that explained her specie and all ; but i already know, so theres no need for it anymore x) and i also know Echidna was the name of a half snake half human (like i said before : Echidna was a character in the Greek mythology so thats not the specie). I really apriciate the time people take to tell me what specie she could be but i got enough messages about it , im fine x) ill just say het specie is a Naga. Done. Over. Finished. No need for any more comments about it okay ^^ ?
She was found by a rich elder couple who took her in as a baby , but she doesnt like to go outside and when she does she wears a big cape (as seen in the picture) to hide her snake like body (she sometimes goes outside without the cape, but then she doesnt move much, she would likely just sit or be somewhere without a lot of people. She never ever leaves without her underdress or cape though) Eventhough i placed her in a world where a lot of myth creatures live , her kind is rare and shes afraid she would be made fun of (of course she wouldn't but shes just insecure ya know). She practiced "walking" like a human so no one would expect a thing. Shes really shy and doesnt say much
she doesnt have a name yet hehehe (oh me)
Character belongs to me ~

Cute character, I like your art style, and the way you've considered how she could conceal her nature in the design of her outfit.
Technically Echnidna was an individual, the mother of all monsters, but there are a lot of species-naming individuals in classical European mythology, usually the first of their kind, so having a species named "Echidna" could still work. For instance:
- Lamia is a type of half-snake half-human child-eating monster, but the original Lamia was a mistress of Zeus who was turned into a monster by Hera out of jealousy.
-Β MedusaΒ was also a woman who caught Zeus's eye and was turned into a monster by Hera, though this time one that turns people to stone rather than eating them.
-Β Melusine is aΒ half-snake half-human water spirit (usually peaceful), the original Melusine was one of three daughters of the water spiritΒ Pressyne and KingΒ Elynas, she was cursed to grow a serpent's tail as a punishment by Pressyne after she locked up Elynas out of spite for breaking a promise.
-Β Enchanted Moura wasΒ a maiden cursed to turn into a snake, she guards treasure and will give it to anyone who can rescue her from her curse, and again this became the name for the species of such creatures rather than just the individual.
That said, you could take your pick of the species Lamia, Melusine and Moura too. If she were Lamia it would be possible she hides her true nature because people consider Lamia to be child-snatching monsters, for instance, and since there are also some versions of Lamia in mythology that are not predatoryΒ to humans, if you want to make that just a prejudice people hold in your world that would work too.
Now, I realise that Naga (literally "viper" in Sanskrit) has become a common term for any snake people lately due to its use in fantasy RPGs, but it's actually a more specific term referring to a group of Hindu deities who are part-snake part-human shape-shifters, able to take the form of a snake, a human or a half-snake-half-human creature. They live in the Patala, a sort of underworld, and are guardians of the elixir of life and cousins to the Guaruda, with whom they have a long standing familyΒ feud.
As for a character name, perhaps Ophelia?

Small correction: Lamia are also sometimes depicted as vampires, their popular snake image is attributed to John Keates.
Also, a Drakaina are another part snake part woman creature from Greek mythology, and may actually fit better than Lamia.

Just one thing: "i'll just say her specie is a Naga" -- might want to go with Lamia to avoid religious complications on Naga. Hindus seem to be more easy going than Christians over that sort of thing, but the game "Smite" caused some controversy for using Hindu deities a while ago. Just a thought. Also kind of fits the description more since Naga are shapeshifters whereas Lamia have a fixed form. Entirely at yourΒ discretionΒ though, the word simply means "viper" or "cobra" after all.

Its just a specie name, a small part of the character. Im sure that whatever i call it, no ones gonna make a problem about it

Okay, so I feel like based in her story the couple that took her in might not have known what they had gotten themselves into, but when they realized they were still easing a perfectly healthy baby girl (even if she was still half snake) they felt her previous family was still important, even though they pretty much assumed the life of a somewhat normal family, until she grew older and started to become her own worst critic. So not knowing that, they named her Serpentina (sur-pen-tee-na)/Serpentia (sur-pen-tee-ah) Or something like that, not knowing that's she'd later grow up to hate it and the fact that she stood out. She even often assumed her human mother's name, in public (Irene maybe) when asked by friendly strangers and what not. Afraid that people might find out she was (what she believed to be as) too different.

What do you mean with "the couple that took her in might not have known what they had gotten themselves into" ^^ ? And thanks for the suggestions ~

Oh! I meant the rich elder couple that took her in, i guess in my mind I just imagined them finding her in a basket or something, and taking her in on instinct rather then thanking the gods they had found a snake child XD
But instead of taking her to the orphanage a couple days later like they originally planned, they fell in love with their new child (since they couldn't have any of their own) and kept her to raise as their own ^^
And you're welcome (I really like this character ^u^)

It's actually 'medusa' but if she can't turn men into stones, I suggest 'lamia' species from Monster Musume

Another good name would be Melusine, a snake-human fairy who despised her true nature and tried to hide it.

I believe what you've created here is called a Naga. Echidna herself was a specific Naga known for being the mother of monsters.

Esmeralda, Makara, Clover?
