Description

I use a slightly different technique nowadays - I made that in to a tutorial too, right here : fav.me/ddfyvmv

MY PATREON PAGE

--------------------------------

thing I've been doing a lot lately with my art, its very simple but in my opinion very effective

Thought I would share it !

I used SAI2 for this, but I think it's also possible for other art programs, as long as overlay is a layer mode

note works better with thinner line art - if you have any tranparent spots after this , create a layer underneath everything and colour it in ~

Thanks for the tip, I used to duplicate the line layer and colour them according to their local area. The result looks good but took time, this method would be faster and easier when I am not in the mod of recolouring lines.

Is there a way to do this effect on thicker lineart? Like the note said, it only shows the imperfections of my coloring underneath. I would love to know, I've seen this type of lineart effect many times and I want to try it myself ^^'

If you want it on thicker lineart I'm afraid you have to do it by hand : locking the lineart layer (or a clipping group above it) and colour the lineart darker colours then the drawing

Adding this comment for CSP users, instead of overlay (because it doesn't do much), try using exclusion or difference. Then mess around with the opacity percentage!

Lock the layer (preserve opacity) and then colour it in ~

Clipping group?

I don't think my program does stuff like that.

I use Fire Alpaca.

ErinFurret In reply to DBZExpert069 [2018-11-25 18:10:45 +0000 UTC]

This is a super late reply but I use Fire Alpaca too, you can make a clipping layer right above the lineart layer and color the purple shade over where the lineart is (clipping layers only cover the lines on the layer below it), then merge the two layers! So if you duplicate the black lineart layer first, then hide the one on the bottom this method still works. You will have one layer that is purple and one that is black and then you can follow the steps! I just tried it out!

DBZExpert069 In reply to ErinFurret [2018-11-25 22:26:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. And i did kinda figure out how to only color the lineart purple. Though when i did it, i could see right through it to the colors, and it didn't look good with all the messy coloring scribbles underneath.

So while this is very useful to know how to do, i don't think I'll be using it in the near future. But thanks a lot to everyone who explained things to me better. I really appreciate all the help.

It might also be called "alpha lock" or it may look like an unlocked lock icon, depending on your program c:
