Description

I use a slightly different technique nowadays - I made that in to a tutorial too, right here : fav.me/ddfyvmv

MY PATREON PAGE

--------------------------------

thing I've been doing a lot lately with my art, its very simple but in my opinion very effective

Thought I would share it !

I used SAI2 for this, but I think it's also possible for other art programs, as long as overlay is a layer mode

Β

note works better with thinner line art - if you have any tranparent spots after this , create a layer underneath everything and colour it in ~

if you're using sai its likely because you used a softer brush

For some reason, I can't get it right. The colours are just not blending! Do I have to paint underneath the line art?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

looji In reply to Pracias [2018-09-07 11:13:38 +0000 UTC]

if all the base colours are underneath the lineart, and in the same folder then it should work for the blending

Do you know what other names art programs would call "overlay"? I use medibang, but I can't seem to find the overlay option for the layer.

Hey there, im havin a small problem and i dont really know how to fix it and was wondering if you knew how ??

It just makes the line art really uneven and choppy i guess and idk V:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Kittin-The-Creator In reply to riaen [2018-09-01 02:41:31 +0000 UTC]

You just have some coloring gaps is all!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

riaen In reply to Kittin-The-Creator [2018-09-01 03:42:04 +0000 UTC]

nah nah i wasnt talking about the gap in the neck

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kameikae In reply to riaen [2018-09-03 04:52:20 +0000 UTC]

i think kittin is right,,Β there are spots in the drawing that you haventΒ colored, so they show up choppy and such

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

riaen In reply to kameikae [2018-09-03 06:30:21 +0000 UTC]

No it has to do with how small my canvas was tbh
All of the parts in my drawing were colored in ;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Pyalicious In reply to riaen [2018-09-05 11:07:46 +0000 UTC]

It has nothing to do with the canvas. For this trick to work, you need to have VERY tidy coloring. The colors must reach under the lineart, so if you color by hand and the coloring is choppy, so will the lineart if you will use this trick.

If you look at the original picture shown here, once the lineart's opacity is lowered, the art looks like a lineless, neat, tidy artwork. If you remove the lineart on yours and it doesn't look tidy, this trick won't work.

ah, i see,,,

looji In reply to riaen [2018-08-31 22:11:34 +0000 UTC]

If you zoom in on my art it looks kinda sloppy too
sta.sh/02b6gmrdqjiv
(Sorry that it isn't a thumb I'm on my phone haha)
And if you're talking about the neck part, just go underneath with the base colour, or to do every spot in one go, put all your layers in a folder, flatten the image and copy it, undo the flatten part so you get your layers back, and copy the flat image underneath all the layers and turn it a dark colour or something (see what works best for your drawing)

Also I really like your drawing even though i cant see it all haha, it looks cute!

Try turning the black lineart layer to Overlay instead of the light purple layer : )

It works , but it's just some places like under lineart is actually empty spaces and it makes colours leaving the spots. I'll try figure out how to fix.

"The layer should be on top of the light purple layer"

PsyHunter29 In reply to looji [2018-09-01 02:24:33 +0000 UTC]

Silly me...

So I tried it myself, and the colours came out too bright and saturated for me.Β  Maybe Overlay mode works differently in Clip Studio, I don't know.Β  But I did use it as inspiration for picking my own line colours.Β  You'll see an example soon enough...

If the character is regularly that color, could you use a preset color to sketch besides black? That could save a few steps.

Added to my favorites - you get all the kudos - it's good to know this color/opacity trick!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

looji In reply to Soulfont [2018-08-31 00:49:22 +0000 UTC]

You mean already do the line art in the light purple ? The lineart for the overlay layer is black, so you would have to make that one black again,, one of the two line arts is gonna change colour so it takes the same amount of time (though Channing the colour of the line art takes 2 seconds with a big brush)
If that's what you mean, that is
