new character from the character design contestoriginal design can be seen here , by artofdroth
some more versions including the tail, unlike the ones I showed in the journal. Some are a little bit too different from the original design, I do want to stay close since I love the original design, but I also want him to mix with the rest.
Also- any suggestions for a name ? And I'm still debating who he has a crush on from the ship (since I think its a good motivation for helping pirates). Any other suggestions on his personality or really anything are always welcome. Hope to draw him properly soon !

3 looks really great because of the white clothes. Have you thought about combining 3's clothes scheme with 6's color scheme?
As for names; Adrian, Arno, Calder, Caspian, Coburn, Cove, Destan, Llyr, Zale.
My personal favorites are Calder, Destan and Llyr if that helps.

I think 6 works the best! The other colors seem to contrast too much imo, 5 is nice but maybe a purple leaning more towards read into of blue ^^

As for a personality, I think a playful and mischievous route is always fun for merfolk. Perhaps not too understanding of culture for land people and is surprised and amazed by things he doesn't have under the eater. Always playing pranks and causing problems to those on boats. But he doesn't want to be a land person because while these land person things are cool, under the water is the best heh

I like 6 and 8
6 has a really nice contrast but still stays in a good looking colour palette and it really exantuates the fish parts
8 one the other hand looks like a koi fish and therefore shares a resemblece to fish but I feel like this one doesn't fit the character quite as well (as in his surrounsings and such)

All of them definitely, but if I have to choose (It's been an hour and I havent choose) I'd say 3, because it looks more like it lives in salt water, and I also love white clothes
(The number 6 tail got my heart, that degradation of the color is beautiful)

I love the designs, they're amazing! Number 1 is the one I love most.
I'm thinking, the name should be Hawria. It means "merman" in Arabic.
I don't know who he would have a crush on from the ship. I don't even know what his age is, So I thought I may have a couple of suggestions for the merboy's crush, if that's okay. First is Nadi. Because she's water and he's from the water too. Those two would make a perfect match. Second, Princess Idla. He can give her whatever she wants to make her happy.
For his personality, maybe a little narcissistic, cunning, sly, good-natured, and more of a charmer.
His home could be a cavern, with a grotto where he can store all of his goods. That would make him like a 'rich' merboy.

I like the idea of him having a crush on someone who would in no way return his feelings, like Nadi (or other male crew members),, but I don't think they can often meet. Though I do want his to crush to be small and not anything serious, so maybe after seeing her once. Idla lives in another kingdom and is 15 haha this guy was designed to be in his twenties, and I like to keep that ^^ but thanks for the suggestions !

So the name Eros or Gelos, named after god of love and affection and spirit/god of laughter respectively stand out?
But there are a ton of water deities and names in greek mythology, very uncommon ones too, and those may work well

Numbers 6,7, and 8 all look really great! On the ship I'd think his personality could be a pretty cool contrast to Helman's quiet but cool stature, also the colours of 6, 7, and 8 have elements that both compliment and repeat Helman's blue-ish tones.. A few names could be Galen, Nolan, Skylar (Sky for short)Β
