And quite often the Army or newspaperΒ reports said: "before being killed, the men were horribly tortured by the Indians". These misrepresentations still find their way into books by award-winning authors, even when it's clear that none of the whites present in the fight lived to make such a statement and Indian accounts exist which describe the fight, including how the whites were unceremoniously killed without further ado.
