Happy Halloween!Illustration for an upcoming book from SQP and rather appropriate for Halloween.
Took much longer than I anticipated - obviously I wasn't drinking enough magic caffeine

It also has a sort of otherworldliness...like all of the elements were rendered individually. Looks incredible.
As many folks have pointed out...her robe is particularly miraculous.

How can one learn to digitally paint like that? I can handle the traditional aspect just fine, its the digital aspect I can't do lol.

I tend to approach photoshop in a quite a similiar way to how I used to use watercolours, airbrush etc - just without the mess to clean up afterwards!

I guess the problems I have with it is I don't know how to use the 'gimmicks'. When/how to make the back ground transparent, economical use of the tools, which brushes on what levels/setting etc. Just photoshop illiterate in basic terms lol. Keep doing your thing, your work is amazing!

I actually try to avoid as many of the 'gimmicks' as possible. I stick pretty much to two basic brushes - a soft one for tones and a hard edge for, well, hard edges and have them on a low to mid level opacity and build up my colours like I used to do with my watercolour work. Cheers!
