Description
New issue of Agent X9 "Warlords of phoenix" Modesty story and the second cover I did for the magazine (first one here [link] ) Its just hitting the streets in Sweden so I have permission to post it.Big Modesty Blaise fan, so it was really great to get another go at a cover - a few more of them and I might start getting a real handle on the character
All 13 covers for this year can be found at the official Modesty Blaise Agenxt X9 blogsite [link] and include work from Modesty artist Romero and the talented Kim Andersson - the blog is running a "cover of the year" poll there, so go vote if you like!

ahhhh you're too kind.. It's nice to comment on a humble artist like you..
Jus't one more question please : the skin layer of the samurai girl, did you use just one layer or you use multiple layers (base skin, highlight, shadow)?
thanks for sharing my friend

Thanks ma'am! When I did the dress, I wasn't sure what the client would think - but they liked it and I'm glad I got to keep it that way

Merci! As I commented to someone else, I wasnt sure what the client would think of the flat white dress but I'm SO glad they liked it and let me run with it.

Thanks man! Often my favourite bits to paint are the material and the clothing, but I was really going for contrast in this piece and held myself back

I'm guessing that your art teachers told you to use negative space more in your pictures as a student too? Well, I guess this is the best way to prove to them that you can do it! Amazing job

it caught my eye becuse it seems for as long
as i can remeber the same guy has been doing
the cover.

You are most likely referring to Romero - he did a whole stack of the modesty stories themselves and despite the fact that he's about 80 now, he's still doing covers today.

Dang 80 and still working, impressive. I havent
really read much Modesty but it has been the only
comic ever continiusly sold here in the racks
(in sweden)

Lots to love Dave...negative space for dress, detail on helmet, colour variation on blade, blur-shine on Samurai.
Well done.

Thanks man! Real nice of you to say.
As a kid I was freaked out by Francis Bacons painting of the pope and the blur shine on the Samurai was my little nod to "Study after Velรกzquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X".
Strange but true!

Thanks! Its kind of mind boggling to me that I got to do some covers along side Romero (Modesty Blaise artist) - he was born in 1930, which means he's still doing covers at 80!!
