I have questions, mon, questions!
Do you do your shading with pencil, or in ps?
(...and then joins in the chorus...)

I used to add a more shading to my initial sketches, but only as an indication of my lights and shadows - I would then paint over them with a soft brush for smooth tones or a hard edge brush for, well harder edges. eg. [link]
but I find myself doing looser sketches without the tones when the deadlines are tight - I'm a little more confident in my ability to work some of the shadows etc out as i paint these days it seems eg. [link]

Outstanding illustration Dave.
Always pleased to see you post your illustrations of famous people; surprised I haven't heard of Ronnie before today. Are you planning on doing a Ronnie Corbett piece as-well?

Would have loved to have painted the 'other' Ronnie too, but this was a commercial piece and they only wanted Ronnie Barker. Not too surprised you hadn't heard of him though - very famous in the UK and here in Australia but I dont think he really impacted on the US much.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if our Public Broadcasting System started
running episodes of him. We get some U.K. T.V. shows about ten or so years
after they have aired over there.

Hey Loopy! nice work! do u have any coloring tips for a begginer?
π: 0 β©: 1
Loopydave In reply to hi-fye [2011-03-19 01:53:57 +0000 UTC]
Dont use too many colours.
Pay attention to textures - how each surface reacts to light (shiny, matt, dull etc)
Remember where your light source is.
Dont run with scissors.
Okay that last one isnt about colouring, but its something my mother used to say and she was a wise woman

The man. The Legend. Possibly the cleverest comedian to have ever lived. The way he twisted the English language... Genius.
And this image is pure 100% class, Dave. Spot on, mate.

Indeed I did! Fun job too, though, because of other work, the deadline was a bit of a killer and I would have liked more time to do a better job.
Cheers mate!

I dont think Ronnie Barker is at all well known in the states and he was probably before your time anyway - I only knew about him because of all the repeats etc here in Australia. Very clever and funny man though!
