Description Because absolutely no-one demanded it!!... yes, its a step by step guide to painting your very own drunken dwarf. Or more precisely, a visual record of how I couldn't make up my mind on a decent helmet design.

Wow when I grow up I want to design like you. How long does it take to make somthing like this?

Pencil sketch was quick and easy - did nearly a dozen dwarf sketches one evening after tea, but I think its approaching something like 4-5 days work on the painting so far.

Awesome.... Do you use a waccom tablet to to digitize it?

Pencil sketch (on paper) scanned into the computer (with scanner) and painted in photoshop with the mouse. Weird quirk of mine - years and years ago I tried a wacom tablet and the lag between hand movement and screen action was SO annoying, I threw it out and just taught myself how to paint the mouse. Do it enough and you can sketch, do fiddly details etc without much problem. Did buy myself a Cintiq (and my bank account is still not talking to me) - used it a few times and now its not working. Got to look at it, but really I'm pretty fast (relatively) how I paint now.

Cheers man!

Got to get back to finishing it sometime - its joined the mighty throng of half finished pieces that fill my hard drive. Too many ideas, too much work, never never enough time!
Cheers man!

Its a personal project and I kind of over indulged on the details a little, something you cant always do on those paying gigs - clients have those deadline things
Cheers man!

very nice what type of brushes do u use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Loopydave In reply to cashoneart [2011-02-15 12:59:35 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much just stick to the plain standard soft brush and the standard hardedge brush in photoshop, set to a lowish opacity. I used a row of spots brush for a little bit of the hair, but other than that, just those two brushes.
Cheers!

Always going to put the yellow light in there - but like to leave my back lighting until I've built up the dark areas to contrast it against.

Cheers!

Cheers ma'am! There's often a freshness and vitality to a sketch that's easy to lose in the painting, but I try to keep some of it in there. Appreciate your comments!

I dont know about that... but I do know that I've drawn, sketched and painted in some kind of way nearly everyday for as long as I can remember. Hopefully its all paying off, but I feel I still have a lot to improve on.
Cheers ma'am!
