Thanks
becouse i could reuse many parts multiple times the modelling was quite nice. Of course the assembling-prozess was the best

But ...ohm...When you import it to 3ds max, you have the whole model the way it looks now, or you have only the pieces and have to build it like it's a real lego bagger?

I had the opportunity to build the model bevor importing, but i didnt.
If so i had to rebuild many parts multiple times.
So i just placed all parts next to each other, export/imported, rebuild, cloned and after all had some fun building the model like a little child

This looks great. There are a few things which catch you out, but they're easy to fix.
- Symetry
the bend in the pipe at the front of the cabin is the same on both sides, you need to warp them a little to be slightly different, nothing is ever the same in real life. This is also a problem with the little grey and yellow wheels which are mirror opposites of each other, and should be offset a wee bit.
- Uniformity
All of your little grey t-joints are pointing in the same direction. I can see you've tweaked one on the upper yellow bar just under the chair, but the rest are all uniform, the same goes for the ones on the arm of the digger. You have the same issue on the little chair, where the grooves in the circular pins are all perfectly straight and facing the same way. A little discrepency goes a long way to giving you more believability.
Lovely render though.

Wow, thanks for the detailed critique.
Of course, in nature nothing is perfect. If Lego would be perfect, then the said parts would often have an exact angle. Of course this is actually not so.
Somehow I have to not think of such details. I'll really try a couple of things turn translated as soon as I have time.
Again, thank you for your opinion!

well done. DOF shows the scale and it looks great!

Thanks, especially for the DOF you like.
Sometimes I got the feeling the DOF here is the main topic

Thats what a "Favourite" should look like! Fine modeling, nice colours, Lovely use of DOF. Great job Some lego parts placed here and there on the scene would be better

While thinking about a szene I also had the Idea of placing some random parts around. Just thought this would destroy this kind of clean-studio-render.
I aktually dream of a komplette story-telling-image or even a little animation so szene-wise there will be some changes.

I am in love them since childhood.
It would be my pleasure if you share some links to get useful blueprints of these machines for modeling!

You could find any oringinal-building-manuals on the official Lego.com-Website.
On the last page they usualy list all nessesary parts which you could find in spezial-Lego-3d-Software, like LeoCAD.

Cool! I love LEGO. I make lego models too. Check it out in my gallery
The materials are really great. Yes, the depth of field is a bit noisy but that does not degrade the quality of.

I saw them and like it
How do you model them? Did you also juse something like LeoCAD for reference?

meszimate In reply to Loqy [2011-09-05 21:46:59 +0000 UTC]
Thanks
Yes, I use LeoCAD and MLCAD too, than export Cinema4D and build up the whole model.
Where do you build the model? In LeoCAd or in 3DsMAX?

Loqy In reply to meszimate [2011-09-05 21:54:58 +0000 UTC]
I do it almost like you.
first I search for all parts LeoCAD and then export to 3dsmax, where everything is again rebuilt

This would be perfect if it weren't for the noisey depth of field

Looking great I googled the kit and was sad to see they have some silly custom pieces on either side of the cockpit. Kinda glad you missed them out XD

Jeah.... there weren't in the LeoCAD-Library, so in my "rebuild-by-modell-ref-Workflow" i leave them out and realy hope nobody would regognize.
Damm!

incredibly realistic, though i would prefer to see less depth of field and have the whole vehicle in focus. great job!

on a other webside there was a short discussion about the need of DOF in this situration, an my conclusion: For right Size-Relations and Eye-Guides DOF is great!
On the other Hand i understand, that some don't like the bluriness and loseness of some details

im with render8, the dof in the front seems bit irritating to the eye. But the model and render is superb so good work!
