Description Yep, I'm into Nerf. It's part of the office warfare, what can I say?
Anyway, I'm mostly done with this, so I'm posting it.

The grip was sprayed down with a "stone" spray. It's like having silly string in paint form. It did pretty well, I should say, as the grip is no longer the uncomfortable plastic feeling.
The other paints were your basic model paints from a craft store.
If you're wondering about the back end of shot #3, I was trying to make it completely red with the letters -ACCESS- in green. Oops? The paint didn't want to comply, or I just didn't have the patience. Not sure which.

Anyway, hope you like it! I'll probably be doing another, and doing a pair of Mavericks as well.

Oh, and yes, it's fully operational. Removed the air restriction so the darts fly further and faster.

Did you break down and tear apart the gun prior to painting or are you taping the different sections of the gun? Im extremely interested in trying for myself and was wondering where to start. thanks

I tore most of it apart. The main body I kept together, and similarly for other half-pieces.
There was a lot of sanding involved. I suggest a Dremel-type device, accompanied by a sanding brick you can pick up at just about any store that offers home improvement items. sanded every bit of the showing plastics prior to painting with standard model paint.
When I got to the spray-on stone texture, I did tape off with regular paper over the rest of the body to shield it.

Dremel's are your friend, if you are going to go all the way.
NerfHaven.com has a forum dedicated to modifications, so you can see what other people have done.
Good hunting!

eBay will have plenty of lots (bunches in one auction) for sale. You can also try making your own, but that does take a bit of work, and most of the time, you need to modify your gun in order to use custom darts (remove the barrel posts and air restrictions, which results in really awesome distance in ANY dart).
Supposedly, the Stefan darts are the best. Never quite understood why, or who Stefan is. But with the mods on a nerf gun, stock darts are good enough for office warfare.

Good hunting!

Pretty cool, looks like something straight from a sci-fi film.

Yep, that was the theory. Nerf designers gotta be sci-fi fans, since a number of their gun designs turn out like this. Just lacking the awesome paint job.

Nope, it was all stock from the package. Cleaned up the "do not do this" text and warnings, and took the official Nerf logo off, and painted it from there.
