Jipnip is a petite little rat with a darkish auburn fur. Her massive, black eyes on a round face gives her an almost childlike complexion, so it’s not unusual for her to be confused for being younger than she actually is.

From being raised in rags she loves shiny things and fancy fabrics. The ear piercings and wrist bangles she wears are unfortunately only cheap, gilded knicknacks she received as gifts, but she loves them nonetheless.

She is unusually quiet and withdrawn for a ratfolk, but it’s not that she dislike the company or people; it’s quite the opposite. She enjoys the company of others and is happy as long as she is considered a part of a team. She just isn’t used to taking up space, neither physically for obvious reasons, nor socially. Also, having a stutter does make it harder to get your point across on a good day, so Jipnip has a habit of only speaking when she has to.

She grows more attached to some people than others however and tends to get clingier than usual towards them.

By nature she is very curious, investigative, friendly and gentle. Maybe a little shy and nervous at times however, but she is definitely the kind to laugh at just about any joke even if she doesn’t quite get them (especially the painfully bad puns). However, her sweet and seemingly innocent demeanor hides a more… deviant side. At least, the way she apparently doesn’t mind being belittled, nor seem to have a normal apprehension regarding pain, certainly doesn’t seem right.

Her upbringing wasn’t bad. It was tough, but not bad. Her family was close, albeit large and poor, and as one of the middle children she was often one of the most overlooked.

Jipnip’s family were fishers, who all pretty much lived on the family’s fishing boat when the father and eldest children weren’t out with it at sea. Every afternoon and evening he would take the eldest children out on the boat to bring in the next batch of fresh fish for their mother and the youngest to sell the next day.

When Jipnip was old enough she too was taken aboard to learn the family trade, but unfortunately that’s when tragedy struck.

After a few hours on the sea, a storm hit them out of nowhere. They were dragged out even further out to on deep sea, and the boat got thrashed by the massive waves and sunk.

By some miracle Jipnip awoke again, only to find herself washed up on a shore in a strange land. All alone, and seemingly the only survivor.

After a few days of her wandering around lost, confused, scared and mourning, she was then found and taken in by strangers for a while, a rag tag gang of outsiders who were on rather non-friendly terms with the law. Even if they themselves didn’t consider themselves the bad guys, they did steal from and kill those they thought deserved it sooo…

While Jipnip obviously didn’t fully agree with them initially, she did grow fond and attached to her new “family” and came to an acceptance. She even picked up a few tips and tricks from them, such as how to use a sling and fight with a knife.

Until they one day just up and left, and she once again woke up alone. Whether it was because they considered her too innocent for the kind of life they were living and left her in order to protect her from the repercussions that surely would come one day, or if she was becoming a burden to them and figured that she was more trouble than she was worth, she didn’t know.

Desperate to do anything to never be alone again she first wanted to find them again. But if the gang doesn’t want to to be found, there was no posse in existence who could find them.

And while she believed her father and elder siblings to be gone, she still thought back to the rest of her family and the desire she felt to return home to them.

Unfortunately, in order to make such a long and perilous journey, she needs money. Enough money to not only get home properly, but also to make sure she has enough to help her mother when she gets home, who certainly is struggling without half of her family and their old fishing boat.
