Man-Thing is still a bajillion times better.
Didn't they come out at the same time?

Yeah they did the thing is they can't be copies of each other because of how Comics were made back then.

I honestly had to look it up.Β
Manny - May 1971
Swampy - July 1971
I love em both, just wish Manny's movie had been better.

Believe it or not, I do believe that they're actually rip off of The Heap character found in the Airboy comics.
The Heap is a public domain character that have no copyrights, so they can't sue each on that because it must have been based off the Heap without knowing that each other is doing the same thing.
The co-creator Swamp Thing writer, said that when he found out about the Man-Thing that came as a surprise while he was working on Swamp Thing with the artist. He decided to give Man-Thing the burning touch to make it different from the Swamp Thing otherwise they're more of same.

I love that, I've never heard the creator's take on it.Β Thanks!Β
Yes, I am familiar with the Heap, a fascinating character in his own right.Β He's even been used more recently, in the War of the Independents series.Β That we may never see the end of.Β

I shouldn't be surprised that he's being used more now thanks to the internet that give information and knowlegde on the public domian comic books, because he's been in public domain for years and will never be pulled out after that.
I did ask myself that should I use this Heap in my future comic art? I would said no, because the Heap looks ugly as hell and I rather be working on the Man Thing or Swamp Thing who looks much better anyway. Bernie Wrightson is outstanding as a co creator, he makes Swamp Thing looks more awesome than any artist who did swamp thing. Same thing with Steve on the Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run. Man Thing is also great looking drawn by Frank Brunner and others.Β
One of my favorite artists, Tom Sutton's artwork on the heap shows that it's still difficult to make him look more interesting and fresh. But really, he's more like a tar monster to me found in a Scooby Doo cartoon.
The Heap is a old design that feels lame and weak by today's standard looking like a walking green glass guy. However, it's still a important part of the history behind the creation of the Swamp Thing and Man-Thing. I feel that the Heap do still have interesting future stories left in him to be told by many new writers and drawn by horror artist who would make it look more interesting than it is right now.

...err......swamp thing was actually made AFTER man thing, November 1972 was the first comic book swamp thing appeared in.
Man thing arrived in strange tales # 1 may 1971.
however out of the two, swamp thing is a bit more badass, such as deadpool is better than deathstroke.

woah slow down, deadpool may be coolrer than deathstroke but he could never be better than deathstroke. deathstroke beat green arrow, zatanna, the atom, hawkman and the flash at the same time. he will ALWAYS have props for that.

deathstroke is the best tactician DC has to offer. im pretty sure he could do what deadpool did (i read that miniseries it was pretty good! )Β

well to be honest the comic itself wasn't even canon and really stupid, most of the things that happened wouldn't happen. and he probably could but deadpool died a few times, the thing is he had his overpowered healing factor, he got ripped apart, his head actually exploded by Invisible woman as well but still survived and not to mention how fast he was healing. but if it was Deadpool vs the DC universe Superman could disintegrate him with the laser vision but knowing comic books they would probably have deadpool tear his arm off right before he could be totally destroyed and if it was deathstroke vs Marvel...I mean...Apocalypse...Galactus...Hulk...Shumo gorath, Man thing.

No way, Swamp Thing isn't evil, unless I've missed something they've done recently.Β
Yeah, Man-Thing has fought and sorta/kinda teamed up with lots of Marvel heroes.Β I believe he even recently acted as a teleporter for one of the newer Thunderbolts rosters.Β

Assuming swamp thing won't be afraid when he see's Man-thing or holding an anonymous grudge against Man thing they would probably refrain from fighting at all..but then again...Swamp thing can talk....
