It should be so easy to do. I know comics have tons of special effects, but I have read so much great literature over the years, the story is what could rally make a movie great.

yeah, movies are pointless without good story structure, there's alot of disposable movies going that lack so much.

As in book recommendations for you?
I am big into scifi, horror and fantasy books mostly. I have a ton of Star Wars I am trying to zoom through. It's a task, but enjoyable one to explore the expanded universe.
I am a huge Clive Barker fan. If you've never read him, I would suggest BOOKS of BLOOD. It's a bunch of short stories so you can get a taste of his style, pretty cheap buy too.
If you like him, from there I would go to The Thief of Always, Weaveworld, Abarat and Imajica.
Also if you like his movies Hellraiser is based on the short novella The Hellbound Heart and Nightbreed is based on the novella CABAL.

The one guy who could actually improvise and adapt as well as Batman, with all the muscle to deal with a Predator's weaponry. This would be a pure joy to see.

I've seen that and loved it. That's the guys who should be directing BATMAN movies. You did know there are about three comic series where Bats tackles Predator? Also Superman vs Aliens, GL vs Aliens, Superman & Thundercats, JLA vs Predators.
