Physical Description: Kind of lanky and thin for her age. She ears a necklace with three shells on it standing for each member of her family, the pink shell for Conkle, the sand dollar for Current, and the snail shell for her younger sister, Cascade. Her eyes are unusual as they have no pupils, but do have a few flecks of whitish material in them, giving her an eerie appearance when you look into them.

Once Salt has made a friend, she's certain to take their side in an argument, even if she doesn't entirely believe in it. She would rather stand by her friends than side with someone who has insulted them, though she still might take her friend to the side to talk to them about it if she really doesn't agree. For the most part, she would go to the ends of Pyrrhia to protect the ones she loves.

Soft-hearted
Though Salt may seem a bit prickly at first, but she expresses her love for others in her own ways, and often extends her affection without words. She may even be a bit abrasive about the way she shows her care, but she always tries to do what she thinks is best for others and can be won over easily by new potential friends. Salt hates to see others in distress, which fuels much of her actions.

Imaginative
Salt may not be able to see, but that just gives her more room to imagine things as she tries to think of what colors might look like or how others see the world. She also likes to think up long, convoluted tales, most of which she's never told anyone and never written down, and many have exorbitant amounts of plotholes and are missing endings. That doesn't matter to her, because she loves all of her stories just the same, though she never intends to share them.

Quiet
After many long years of only being able to speak to her family when they were above water, Salt has gotten used to being quiet and keeping her thoughts to herself. It gives her a lot of time to think, sure, but she also lets others speak over her and may forget to say things she wants to just because she doesn't feel like talking at the time or doesn't want to interrupt someone else to say it.

Sensitive
Even though Salt has lived her whole life blind, she really isn't comfortable with that aspect of herself, and over time, she grew so self-conscious that other things about herself started to worry her, too. She doesn't usually show it, but her insecurities come out as snappish remarks or a bit lip to keep from talking or a nasty look in your general direction if they're mentioned. She also tends to handle affection really awkwardly, even though she's really grateful for it.

Sarcastic
Despite Salt's quietness, she has a tendency to be sarcastic when she actually talks, spitting off what may seem like mean-spirited remarks left and right. She goes a long way to attempt to not actually hurt anyone, but sometimes what she's thinking just slips out. A lot of the things she says are actually detrimental only to herself.

Salt tries her best to be independent, but there are some things that she just can't do on her own, and since her little sister's egg was laid, she's done more than usual to hide it when she needs help, not wanting to admit her weakness to her parents and make herself seem like more of a bother. It's gotten worse since arriving at the academy, since she seems to want to convince everyone that she's fine on her own.

Okay, so Salt has a problem - she tends to try to push away things that bother her and try pretend they don't exist, since she grew up around parents who did the same thing to her with her blindness. She'll even avoid confronting her own feelings with a crush - not that she's had one before.

Salt often tears herself up over little mistakes, swearing up and down that she could've done better or she should fix it so it isn't messed up. She always wants to do her best, sure, but when she doesn't she's too hard on herself, only seeing what she's done wrong instead of seeing an opportunity to improve.

Once something becomes hers, Salt sort of goes into an automatic jealousy mode, where no one can touch the thing because that is hers and only hers it belongs to her do not touch!!! She's this way because she grew up not really feeling like she had anything for herself, not even her parents, who took care of her but always seemed so distant. She's also the same way with other dragons, but on a lesser scale.

Before Hatching: Conkle and Current both grew up at around the same time in a small village on the outskirts of the SeaWing kingdom. They were expected to get together because they only lived two houses down from one another and they spent so much time playing, and sure enough, they became sweethearts in their adolescence, becoming official mates not long after they became adults. The two were the typical "atomic family" parents, with a deep love masking shallow personalities. Neither were particularly interesting, and lived completely normal lives until their first egg was hatched.

Hatchling: Salt's egg was laid in a secure place and watched over by both of her parents, and they were both there at the day of her hatching in the reef they lived in. They were anticipating a happy child, a caring child, one that they could raise normally and teach to play and speak aquatic with them. Unfortunately, this wasn't to be the case, and they knew it when they first saw her eyes. She was born without pupils, and while at first Conkle and Current desperately hoped it to be some sort of cosmetic abnormality without affecting her sight, they soon knew this wasn't true.
They took her to doctors on their reef, and when they couldn't help, they tried some of the other cities, going deeper and deeper into SeaWing territory until they came to the palace, begging for the help of one of the royal animuses (for it was well-known that the royal family was populated by them before Queen Willow's war). They were turned away, being told that their animuses had all been killed in action, and that there hadn't been any known royal animuses for a couple decades at that point. Conkle and Current returned home with their child, who was now nearly two, distraught and still wishing for a miracle.

Dragonet: During the whole doctor-search debacle, Conkle and Current had attempted to keep calm in front of Salt, and it wasn't like she could see them speaking frantic aquatic to the doctors. They tried to give her as normal a life as possible, caring for her and treating her as much like a normal dragonet as they could in hopes that one day she could be one. They even went above water more frequently so they could teach her to talk and hear their daughter's voice, even trying to get her to speak aquatic, which she knows a few broken phrases to from their talking and touching scales she should light up.
When she began to get to her older childhood, she began to notice how her parents acted around her, going out of their way to treat her like a child and protect her and hide things from her that they believed to be too dangerous. She couldn't even really make any friends, since they didn't want her to go outside and end up swimming off on accident. Conkle especially grew distant from his daughter as he went to work on an oyster farm to try to pay back all of the doctors for checking her eyes. Current was her only real connection to the outside world, her mother taking her out to go ashore and speak together and being there to listen to her troubles, so naturally, Salt grew incredibly attached to her. Her mother even taught her how to make simple jewelry, and Salt took up the art in her free time, using her sense of touch to choose beads for bracelets and necklaces and earning a few burns on her hands when she tried crafting the thick metal bands that she knew some dragons, like her mother, wore. She was incredibly unhappy as she grew more and more aware that she was missing out on a lot of experiences and other dragonets didn't get treated that way by their parents.
Salt was a little under five years old when her parents told her that they were having another egg, and about a year later, her younger sister, Cascade, was born. She was jealous from the moment she knew about the egg, thinking that they decided to have it so they could try for a "normal" child. When Cascade came out, a pretty bright blue and perfectly healthy, Salt was in equal parts resentful and relieved, her resentment directed at their parents as she could feel their instant love and relief, and her own relief for the hatchling not having to suffer through what she did, for she would never have wished that on anyone. Despite herself, she grew to love Cascade in the few months that they shared a home, and her resentment towards her parents only increased when they told her that they would be sending her to Jade Mountain Academy, because they could "teach her to live a more normal life."
She doesn't exactly want to be at Jade Mountain Academy, but she's decided to make the most of her stay and try to learn a thing or two since she doesn't really have a choice about being there.
After being at Jade Mountain Academy for a whole year, Salt has made more friends than she's ever had before, in addition to finding someone that she feels drawn to in a way more than friendship, however small the draw currently is. She's even gained a best friend! Salt has decided that perhaps being in the academy isn't so bad, and that she might want to keep coming around for a while yet. In fact, she's beginning to think that it might also be an experience to live somewhere other than the Kingdom of the Sea....
