Lance was minding her own business, trying to go into town to scavenge for food (she didn't want to take much from the Nook, since they were feeding so many children already) when a mildly familiar silver gro approached her, thrust an egg into her hands, and said, "Take this." Right after that, the other gro just sort of... walked away, coughing into her elbow as she did. They were left with an egg and a lot of confusion.

Effie was glad to be rid of the egg. If she was lucky, that gro was stupid and would remember that one time they locked and would think it was theirs. Now she could return home and tell her parents that her school threw her out just because she was putting on a few pounds so they thought she got eggbound. She wouldn't have to worry about them finding out the truth!

This case of runny glands was getting out of hand, though. She was starting to run a high fever, and she felt weak from the walk to town. It was a long way, she reasoned, but she would be home soon enough. Her parents would lovingly dote on her and coo over how glad they were to have her home, and fume about how they would have to send a strongly worded letter to the school's headmistress.

She let out a cough that rattled her lungs as she padded towards home, but smiled nonetheless, barely noticing the black ooze that seeped from the corners of her mouth in her feverish haze. She would be home soon, and everything would be back to the way it was before. She would be pampered and spoiled once more.
