I actually did buy a tablet in the meantime but I just can't seem to find time to teach myself to use the damn thing :/

It's simple to use!
It feels like drawing on paper, the only difference is that you aren't looking at your hand while you are drawing.
Well, I use it for photo retouching cuz I can't draw (LOL) but the concept is the same
So you only need to habituate yourself to use it

I own a pretty simple wacom tablet - so I'm not sure if it's so precise... but anyhow I think it's the habituating to looking at the monitor part will take a while

I think you're right, but if you draw with the tablet you don't have to use the scanner LOL
