Description I went to a formal wedding on New Year's eve. I was waiting in line for a drink at the reception with my camera down at my side, when this mime came over, stuck his face in front of the lens and i snapped a pic, while the cam was still near my knee. He was so impressed at my "sieze the moment" attitude (and he liked the pic), he wanted to do head shots as well as other conceptual ideas with me.
Many ideas flew to mind, but i really wanted to capture a Beckettian sense of emptiness and lonliness....as i become more into the art thing, i seem to slip into this void often and without avail...and it is I that cannot use words to speak of this solitude.

The thing I noticed first , and last when I saw this image - was the shadow up against the pillar on the right hand side.
I always notice light and shadows, I dont know why - I just do. . . And that shadow has my attention. Mainly because it seems to have a different emotion to that of the mime itself! I dunno, I'm crazy and probably seeing things that really arn't there .

As a whole, its a lovely photo - I love the sepia, I find its better than black and white as it enhances the shadows even more, yet giving it a 'feel' that colour can't achieve.

Lovely.

awesome job...and the spur of the moment thing with the mime adds to it. the ambiguity of your canvas and the ratio of the size of the mime to the empty space compliments it even more...v. good work

Very beautiful & full of strong emotion...the expression on the mime's face is priceless indeed, & the faded colors on the photo fits the moment so well. The enviornment is breath taking too, I must say you took a wonderful shot on the perfect moment, angle & mood

Very nice & another favorite

I love this piece, the b/w tones go well with the mime for obvious reasons but i like how the stone walls give a feeling of cold emptiness, the angle also emphasised the lonelieness well.

I really love it, congrats on a great work!

I love this picture. I have lived with lonliness most of my life so I know the feeling quite well. I like how you used the openess of the picture to state a feeling that is just as big.

Awesome shot. Amazing composition, great tone, and...what an opportunity. A frickin mime, with that sort of architecture just lyin around.

I was salivating over this picture, and my friend told me "stop getting excited over that picture." I guess I was going a little crazy, but it is just that great a shot.

Excellent work

I like how much we can see in this--how we get the ground, the ceiling, and the mime. I was a little disappointed that we don't get to see the picture you took from your side, but this one is great. I'd think a mime would be a perfect model for photographers because the mimes always have to show so much emotion and so many stories just by their posture, their gestures, and their face.

hands down the best use of mime-models on da i've ever seen!

actually, this would be an interesting shot with just about any model because the architecture and the angle really set the mood. that you included a mime here is just over the top creativity! great stuff!

Might want to check the date on your camera..."Date Picture Taken Feb 7, 2004, 2:52:18 PM" - Which is fine, is you happen to know about time travel into the future.

Nice work though.

Excellent shot! Having all that space above the mime gives a more dramatic feeling than if you had just taken a picture of him and leaving no extra space at all. Definitely a +fav.

I love his expression, and just the way you captured how big and lonely the room was, even though it was filled with beautiful marble floor and celing...

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

lucidpoetress [2004-01-10 01:31:49 +0000 UTC]

I love the perspective; the cieling, floor, and two columns create a sort of frame around the mime and the emptiness to his right (the left side of the photograph). The position of the mime, near fetal, underneath the high cieling gives the viewer a sense of not only solitude but of fear, of being small and isignificant. A tiny child, if you will.

This is a great capture, full of fine detail and emotion.

*gasp* i love mimes!

there's something about being very very small in a corner... but not blending in..
an unmatching quality to the regalness of the surroundings... but somehow he steals the show.
