Description Do you think it is possible to have an " architectural photography" addiction?
Or is it just taking pictures of amazing, man-made enclosed spaces that are visually appealing and can let the mind run free with possibilities?

Either way, i am drawn to the the idea of giving a glimpse into sub-terranian worlds.

HAHAH! DC! I was there a while ago, and took a handful of neat pics, but my perspectives were limited due to peing stuck in a wheelchair.

I would have posted a couple, buy my account's not really about photgraphy... but I did use one shot as a background... check it out: [link]

i think its the scond taking pictures of amazing, man-made enclosed spaces that are visually appealing and can let the mind run free with possibilities..
however that is just my own opinion..
when you come to a place like this your eyes just begin to run everywhere eating this eye candy visually and creating different images and angles in the head..

Well, heres proof that the more well-known and longer-lived deviants get allllll the recognition, leaving us lesser-known ones peering out from the 'nether regions' of the deviantart website. I took this EXACT same photograph, of the EXACT same place (maybe even the same station, they all look the alike), and at the EXACT same angle, and posted it on my page here on this site --> [link] . Yet, YOURS has made it to the daily top favorites! Why is that? Because the administrators and the 6000 other people on your friends list know about you. Mine, on the other hand, lies reletively unnoticed and collecting metaphoric dust in some remote corner of the deviantart server's harddrive. The thing that bothers me is that, apparantly, i have Daily Top Favorites-worthy material, and yet no one knows anything about it, nor will it ever get such recognition.

The issue boils down to a popularity contest.

Granted, my photo is slightly different than yours (slightly different color and elevation), which is to be expected, but the content of both is so extremely similar so as to make me somewhat peeved.

I usually do not go on rants such as this, but this kind of thing makes me mad. There really should be some sort of forum for us less well-known individuals - possibly another front page that displays the quality work and separate DTF's of those people that do not have the 5,000-some pageviews that the 'giants' on this site do.

Despite all of this, i stress that i am not commenting negatively on your specific picture. The photo itself is really great - the colors and angle are neat, and i like it. It's just that this shot, and its similarity to mine, just sparked me to rant about such things. I hope at least some people relate to what im saying, and maybe we can all work to make a positive change to the wonderful journey that is Deviantart.com .

I completely agree with you about the popularity contest thing around here...but i do not engage in the games most people play. i critique and do not stroke egos. So suffice it to say, i think that i got as "popular" as i am because of the quality of my work....of course, you can be the judge of that.
also...this is washington dc's subway...probably 1000's of people took the same picture. mine is my take and i think it conveys a very different feel than yours. though your is a wonderful architectural shot, mine is more minimalistic and stark. i waited for NO people to be there...that takes some patience and took a very long time to compose it. and my post production is quite different from the normal piece, as the colors are not true to life, as are yours....so i made some really conscious decisions about the artistic presentation of this piece. Again, yours is really good, but mine is different, but maybe not different from everyones in the world.
I am sorry about the popularity thing, but again, sometimes it is also luck.
I submitted a pic once and got 2 faves and i submitted again 2 months later because i loved it so much and got 73 faves...why? not more "friends" but timing. There are alot of random factors involved here, but I guarantee one thing....keep producing incredible pictures and you will get the "faves" and plenty of exposure...not just on DA, but also in the "real world".

Thank you very much for not responding negatively to my comment on this piece. I did not completely mean for it to be the way it is, and upon reading it again i see that i probably shouldnt have reacted the way i did, and to the extent that i did. It was most likely simply the result of an extremely bad day that i had when i posted it.

All of your points are, of course, correct. I now realize that the metro stations see countless visitors everyday, more than one of which has a camera on hand. Each person sees the potential of their photograph in a different way, and each produces a different final product. Yours is, of course, wonderful. The luck factor had also never ocurred to me, and i shall consider it for the future. I was never one for common sense.

And, as i failed to mention previously, congratulations on the DTF, and the huge success of your photograph in general. Keep up the great work.
