Description
While visiting a temple in Vietnam, I caught a glance of this man, teaching, praying and smiling all the while, despite goofy tourists everywhere. The power of a smile is almost unparalled.I know that most people do not really appreciate this type work on DA (i hope more people subit photojournalism), but i would like people to get a chance to see some of my street portraiture...i think it is the most profound type of photography...it opens the mind to the similarities in people.
Thank you.

I must confess.
Photojournalism doesn't really appeal to me
But this one sure caught my eye.

This pic is realy great but I'd have included his right leg and bottom of the stick in the frame. Need I say that the expression you've captured is excellent ?

lorrainemd,
Do you get any kind of 'model release' when you take candid street portraits or is this unneccessary?
I'm just wondering because I also love this genre, but I have been reading alot lately on (mostly US based) bulletin boards about the necessity of a model release.
thanks,
steve

I realized that old man should be from Vietnam. Cause i'm Vietnamese. nice shots. In Vietnam there're alot of great things to take pictures of.

I love this, and I love photojournalism. I'm really getting into it too, but it does take a certain amount of gutts and attitude which I just don't have. Most of my friends hate cameras, so I just don't have the front to go around taking photos of people, perhaps if I did I'd end up with something like this......
Really beautiful

Bravo! I, too would like to see much more photojounalism on DA. Are you looking at it as a career? I'm going to accept your invitation to view your street shots.

I dont see too much of this type of photography in DA either... shame.
this is a very special photo. this little old man has probably been through so much shit in his life, and he still manages to sit there amongs all the stangers and smile like that. what a man.

the sepia fits it greatly, reminds me of Nam and how film and media portray it as a whole.
The Old man fits the scene nicely, his smile as you say is all on it's own, it deserves to be photographed and it deserves a worthy comment

Wonderful shot, a definite favorite of mine, perhaps one of the best I have seen so far.
It brings a quote that I'm not sure of the wording but it goes something like, " Wise is the man who can remain content amist a world of stupidity." and what you said about him just smiling even among the "goofy tourists" as you so aptly put it. Beautiful
