Description
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of this Telltale game, which was back in October of 2020, Ra1nb0w-Ph0en1x and I decided to create a collaborative drawing with the cast of characters on it as our way of thanking the creators of this amazing game. For my part, I drew Jesse’s gang, Ivor and Harper, the classic Order, Isa the Founder, Stampy, Stacy and Nell.Since I’m on the topic of Minecraft: Story Mode’s anniversary here, I’m going to take a minute to describe what MC:SM means to me. Without this wonderful game that came out when I was an elementary schooler (specifically, I was ten years old and in 5th grade when the first episode was released), I would never even have a reason to be on the Internet. I did draw a lot of Kirby stuff back in the 4th grade, but this was the fandom that started everything for me. (It was before I started getting into cartoons, so think of MC:SM as the Big Bang and Unikitty as the creation of Earth for me.)
It wasn’t until I fell hands-over-controller in love with this game that I wanted to officially start drawing fanart and writing fanfiction. It wasn’t until I started reading theninjakid14 ‘s MC:SM Rewritten stories that I wanted to share my stories on Wattpad. Yeah, so as strange as it might sound, if it weren’t for MC:SM, Broken and Frozen probably wouldn’t be here.
I did a LOT of weird stuff with the game back in 5th grade. When we went to see our relatives on Christmas, I built a little pavilion in my cousins’ Minecraft world because I had been planning to hold a Magnugaard (Magnus x Ellegaard) ship wedding. I shipped that pairing so much that Skyla’s earliest version was her as a Magnugaard child. You do NOT want to see what the pages of my copy of Dork Diaries 3 1/2 (which is one of those interactive books that asks you to write in it) look like, since I got it around that time.
As weird as I used to be back then, my heart and my soul goes out to everybody who worked on the game, and although Telltale might have shut down, it was still a gem. I mean, it was fun seeing the possible outcomes of all the different choices, and I remember my brother going into hysterics over Reuben’s death. (Poor dude was bawling his eyes out.)
I’m now going to show you a note I wrote in August of 2018 to further explain my appreciation for the game. It was me doing a tag that I saw in Ninja’s “The Life And Times Of Radki” story even though no one had tagged me as I didn’t have Wattpad yet.
“Favorite Moment in MC:SM: I’m going old school for this question. I liked the moment where Jesse, Reuben and Olivia arrived in Redstonia (If you chose to go after Ellegaard, that is. I know I did). The scenery and the music playing when they stepped out the portal was just really cool.
Moment of Triumph: In Giant Consequences, the strays were pretty tough to beat for me. I felt better when I finally knew their attack patterns.
Hardest Choice: When it came to the choices, the game was a breeze to me. However, like a lot of players, my hardest choice was in Below The Bedrock, where you had to choose between bringing Radar or leaving him in order to save Fred’s people. I didn’t know what to do because, probably like you, I was nervous about what would happen in the finale.
Favorite Characters: (Beware: Long Answer) I really liked Ellegaard when I was just getting into the game, but I was 10 years old in 2015, so I wasn’t very smart with the fandoms I was in (I even tried shoving the lessons MLP taught viewers down older kids’ throats online; that’s why they bullied me for being in that one), and, to be honest, I didn’t even know why I liked her. Now that Season 2 has come and gone, I have to say that Jack was one of my favorite characters. I liked him because he was the Hawkodile of MC:SM. Are you still with me? Good. Don’t worry, I’m keeping this MC:SM related. He’s a strong fighter and a hardcore adventurer, but he cares about his friends deeply. Plus, he might be where Petra gets her adventuring sense since she admires him. Jack isn’t “ruining” Jetra, either, so stop throwing rotten veggies at him. I’ll talk more about that later. Jack and Nurm are also my inspiration for Swanna and Lee, and how I came up with the name of Jack, my second SCI OC. This question has gone on long enough, so I’ll stop talking.
Cutest Ship: No ship is canon in MC:SM, so I don’t really ship anyone in the game to the point where they’re my OTP and I’ve written, like, 32 fanfics about them. Harvor is the closest thing to something which is actually canon, though, so that’s my answer to this question. There’s also a second cutest ship on my manifest, and that is Radki. I never really liked OC x Canon, but I ship it not only because they’re alike but because it would be plausible if Nikki was an actual character in the game.”
(Bold choice of words, 2018 me. I’m a piece of OC x Canon garbage now.)
”Favorite Episode: Below The Bedrock. This was my favorite episode because not only did Xara prove the void being underneath bedrock wrong but because of that nervous choice at the end that, like I said, made me nervous about the outcome of whichever one I picked. The music is catchy in that episode, too.
Season 1 or Season 2: Although it was weaker than the first, Season 2 was my favorite. It inspired the Unikitty story I’m currently working on. ‘Nuff said.”
(The only reason I said that Season 2 was “weaker” than Season 1 was because someone on Wattpad said it was. Now, I think they’re both good.)
“Predictions For The (Possible) Season 3: I don’t have any because I don’t think Telltale will ever MAKE an S3. I won’t stop you from hoping there’ll be more to come at some point in the future, though. I’m thankful that those who keep the fire of the fandom alive gave me the guts to be writing this (and possibly care about me doing it).”
(And what do you know? I was right.)
”Why I Love MC:SM: (Warning: Another Long Answer) After this last one, I’ll talk about why I said I’ll move on. I’m no Minecraft expert, but the main reason why I love MC:SM is not because of a character that became your cinnamon roll or because of the changes we see in the characters or anything like that. I like it too, but listen here, ladies and gents. The main reason I love MC:SM is because of the artistic approval I give it. Keep in mind that this was made in collab with the people who made Minecraft, and when the game company who made The Walking Dead (I haven’t played it) teams up with them, Minecraft becomes even more of a work of art. The character design, the music, the scenery and the voice acting are all just plain outstanding. I’d like to take a moment to thank Telltale and Mojang for everything they’ve done. I can’t even come CLOSE to building something that looks like the builds in the game. Antimo and Welles also provided great music to listen to, and these people can cast BEYOND LIMITS better than I can. Even the YouTubers are great at acting.”
(Now, it’s not only this, but everything else about it. I love the art and the story equally.)
RP, when you digitalize this, you can edit this however you like. Shade some parts of it, saturate some colors, sharpen some lines, anything. I’d like the “Thank You” sign to be in the middle of the drawing, meaning you’ll have to draw the characters for your part around the ones here on mine. Similar to what I did for my Unikitty drawing, you can draw our personas in each bottom corner. If it isn’t obvious already, the blank space under the words thank you will be where the game’s logo goes. You can draw it out or edit it in.
Just like Unikitty, MC:SM is something very special to me that I will always cherish, so again, thanks to all of the wondrously talented people who played a part in making this game as great as it is. I may be late in celebrating its anniversary, but that doesn’t mean I’ll love it any less than I do now. Happy late five-year to you, Minecraft: Story Mode, and thank you very much for changing my life in such a great way and helping me to write my own story!
