[1 is sitting to one side of a couch, reading. Doors to either side of the room.]

[2 enters from left]

2: Excuse me?

1: Yes?

2: May I sit next to you?

1: Yes.

[2 sits next to 1, close but not touching, relaxed but not leaning to either side.]

[3 enters from left]

3: Hey, excuse me?

2: Hey.

3: Sorry to interrupt. I was wondering if it would be okay for me to use your soap. I ran out and need to shower before my date tonight.

2: Go ahead. It's the green bottle. Thank you for asking.

3: Thank you! It's on my list for the store tomorrow.

2: I hope things go well for you tonight.

3: Me too, thanks.

[3 exits to left]

2: Excuse me?

1: Yes?

2: May I put my hand on your knee?

1: Yes.

[2 puts a hand on 1's leg, still not leaning.]

[3 enters from left wearing a fancy dangly earing visible to the audience. 4 enters from right.]

3: Oh, hey! You're home! When did you get back?

4: Hey! I got back late last night. I didn't want to wake anyone.

3: That's understandable. How was the trip?

4: Wonderful. It was great to get away for a few days without work to worry about.

3: Yeah, I can relate. I wish my schedule allowed for time off right now.

4: They've still got you pulling extra hours?

3: Yeah, it's chaotic, but I managed to sneak in a date night.

4: Oh? Is this the same person?

3: Yeah, I've got my fingers crossed!

4: I hope it goes well for you. Wait, is that a new earing I spy? [alt: Wait, are those new earings I spy?]

[4 reaches out and touches the earing visible to the audience

4: It's gogeous!

[3 steps back from 4]

3: Whoa! What are you doing?

1: How could you do that?

4: What? I just -

2: You just invaded their space!

1: You didn't ask!

4: But I -

3: Didn't ask. How could you touch my earing without asking?

4: I didn't think.

2: That's right, you didn't think.

1: It's always important to ask first before going into someone's personal space or touching their things.

3: They may not be comfortable with you being that close to them.

1: Or anyone being that close to them.

4: Right, of course.

3: We should always make a point to ask first. We never know what someone else might be dealing with or where their boundaries are with respect or space.

1: Sometimes even little things can set someone over the edge.

2: If we take care to ask first, we won't end up crossing any lines.

4: I didn't realize. i'm sorry. I'm sorry I crossed your boundary. I will do my best to remember to always ask first.

3: Thank you for the apology and working to correct your mistake in the future. I appreciate your effort.

4: Are we still okay?

3: Yeah, of course. An honest mistake is always okay as long as we work to correct it.

4: I'd never do anything to hurt you intentionally. I hope you have a great night out. They better treat you respectfully.

3: Thanks. I hope you have a good evening too.

[3 exits to right. 4 exits to left.]

2: Excuse me?

1: Yes?

2: May I lean against your shoulder?

1: Yes.

[2 leans against 1, head relaxed on 1's shoulder.]

1: May I lean my head on yours?

2: Yes.

[1 leans head to the side, relaxed, continues reading.]

[5 knocks on door to right of stage, remains offstage. 2 gets up and answers door at stage right.]

2: Hello.

5: Hi, sorry to bother you unannounced like this.

2: No worries. What's up?

5: I'm headed to the club for the night, but my phone died just after I left home. I was wondering if I could hang out here for a bit while it charged up?

[2 glances back at 1 then looks out door again.]

2: Sorry, we're having a quiet night in and the others are either out or heading out.

5: Ah, that's okay. It was worth a shot. Maybe the club will have a cord I can use. And Alex always carries a battery pack, maybe I can borrow it when they get there. Unless, maybe, do you have one?

2: Actually, I do.

5: Is it charged? Can I borrow it?

2: Yeah, wait here.

[2 walks out of door at stage left, returns quickly carrying a battery pack.]

2: Here.

5: Thank you so much!

2: Just bring it back tomorrow when you come for dinner.

5: Of course.

2: I hope you have a good night.

5: Thanks, you too.

[2 closes door and returns to the couch with 1.]

1: I am enjoying sharing space with you.

2: Sharing space with you is wonderful.

1: Can we sit up and face each other?

2: Yes.

[Both sit straight and turn to face each other.]

1: I would really like to kiss you. May I?

2: Where?

1: Would a kiss on the lips be okay?

2: Yes.

[Both lean in and kiss.]

2: That was very nice.

1: Quite enjoyable. May we return to snuggling?

2: Yes.

[Both return to previous position. 2 has hand on 1's leg, leaning on one's shoulder. 1 reading with head on 2's shoulder.]

[4 enters from left. 1 and 2 look up.]

4: Oh, hi, sorry. I didn't realize you two were still in here.

1: No worries.

2: What's up?

4: I was hoping to watch a bit of Netflix on the big screen.

[4 gestutres towards audience.]

2: Oh, um...

4: Would it be okay if I sat next to you and watched the next episode of my show?

1: Actually, um, maybe not right now.

2: Sorry.

4: Oh, okay, no worries. Do you know when you'll be done in here?

[1 and 2 lok at each other.]

2: Not super long now.

1: 20 minutes maybe.

4: Okay. I'll watch an episode on my computer and come back after.

2: That works. Thank you for showing us consideration.

4: No worries. See you later. Have fun.

2: Later.

[4 exits stage left.]

[1 puts down book at side of the couch, turns to 2.]

1: I am really enjoying spending time with you.

2: Yes, I am as well.

1: I would like to take the next step with you and engage in intercourse.

2: Oh, it's so sudden!

1: Is that not okay?

2: No, I am not quite ready for that.

1: I am sorry, yes, that was quite quick. Perhaps we can do something else instead?

2: Yes, perhaps. What were you thinking?

1: Maybe we could go to my room and sit on the bed?

2: Yes, that does seem like a more reasonable step.

1: Are you sure that you are okay with that?

2: Yes, I'm sure.

1: Then let us go upstairs.

[1 and 2 get up and exit stage left together.]
