Description This is the Thing graphic used on my current website. It was colored in Photoshop using a quick-n-dirty airbrush method. I'm about to launch a new website soon, so I'm not sure if this will appear there, but I hope you'll enjoy seeing it!

Dude! That looks so ... Jack (King) Kirby. Are you a Kirby fan? Or is it possible your inspiration came from a Kirby fan?

Which ever, your quality is good. I hope to keep developing my quality to such a level. I am going to keep an eye on you.

I am definately a Kirby fan! Nobody EVER drew the Thing like Jack drew him! To me, it's the only Thing there is! I learned to draw the Thing by looking at issue # 55 of the FANTASTIC FOUR, which was reprinted in ORIGINS OF MARVEL COMICS by Stan Lee. As a kid, I reproduced each panel on one page over and over again. lol. A while back I actually met someone who actually owned the ACTUAL page I had learned to draw the Thing from! I met him while I stuffing Jack Kirby Collector mags for TwoMorrows Publishing a few years back. He actually made me a nice print of the page (which hangs in my studio), so I'm forever grateful to him for it! Here's the page I mean:

Long live Kirby the KING!

Thanks for the link, I enjoyed it. But I also enjoy seeing the artwork of people who are Kirby fans. I like to see how Kirby inspired others, even if their style is very different from the Kirby style. I still find it inspiring for my own development. Because someone might have seen something I didn't. Which could help me understand why Kirby drew X the way he did. I don't want to be a clone of Kirby; no one can be another and why? I want to be myself, not Kirby. So I want to have that Kirby look, not be Kirby. I don't think I'm good enough to be a professional; which goes double for my early work I'm currently posting. But it would be nice if I could sell some stuff, some day.

I think if you keep working hard, you'll only keep getting better at drawing. Some great books that tought me a lot about basic drawing growing up include HOW TO DRAW COMICS THE MARVEL WAY by Lee and Buscema, and HOW TO DRAW THE HEAD AND FIGURE, by Jack Hamm. I recommend seeking these books out and practising from them. It opened up a lot of doors for me in figuring out where I was going wrong and where I was going right with drawing.

Take care,

Well, at the moment it's my website's front page. It's been up since 1998! It used to be a black and white image, but a couple years back I decided I'd try my hand at coloring it in Photoshop. It turned out pretty well, so I've continued to work at improving my colorists skills.

I'm glad you like it!
