Description Made with Foamboard, part of my Uni work
It's a 'city slice' containing a gallery

The idea was to create a journey travelling around the building, and have lots of full height space and therefore a bit of 'wow'
The box of the roof is living space, and the box in the basement is a studio which have been extruded into the gallery space to create yet more gallery space and some (hopefully) interesting spaces.

As a civil engineer, (student), I look at that and try to find a way to make it work in reality.

I'm a civil engineering student too
The big box is meant to be a super light timber construction and hung on beams running across the roof of the main building. I didn't do any calcs for it though so not sure how well that would work!!

Architectural civil engineer?
or Architectural Engineer?

I am just a civil engineer, structural concentration for my masters.

the model looks great by the way.

Ah, I didn't explain well enough!
The box itself is timber, but the rest of the construction, including the beams is concrete
Though the span is only 5.5m

My course is called Civil Engineering and Architecture - it's straight civil engineering, for me concentrated on structure just like yourself
The architecture modules are all extra, so we get twice the work load! Joy!!
What year are you in?

Uh...
I am in my masters. 3 semesters with 2 classes each. I am on my 2nd semester.

So.. no year comparison.

US: Bachelors: 4 year degree
Master: 2 additional years, but I am taking a non-traditional 3 semesters with 2 classes each

Perhaps it could. But Timber doesn't like to be "unsupported" over large distances.
Did you think about "Engineered wood"

I love the concept of a 'journey' through the building, and the model looks very awesome!

what material did you use in this model? to make it?

lottie44442 In reply to alekrranza [2012-05-15 22:33:44 +0000 UTC]

It's rather unforgiving foam board, cut with a scalpel blade, and then just tracing paper for the frosted glass parts
