Description

October 2013

Done by so many others so I suppose it was inevitable in the end. Earth, wind, fire and water, now conceptualised by yours truly as well, Loulin-style.

Earth, the very foundation under our feet, harbouring life of all kinds from the rich soil to the top of the trees. And the stone was thrown in for good measure, to remind that the earth also contains a great deal of geology.

Technical stuff: Watercolour + coloured pencils. Size: about an A4 - approx.29x21 cm / 11,5x8,5 in. Time: approx. 10,5 hours, NOT including preparing the paper and the hours of just waiting for paint to dry.

Love this composition, as well as the colours.

The colours and textures are a bit flat in my mind. (Hence the redux-series). Still glad you liked it though.

I can see why you think so, but the simplicity of this one is also nice!

The elements are coming.

Very often elements are visualized by giving them a partly humanoid form. And when you mentioned about this project in your journal I expected to see something like that. After all, you have already made some pictures which almost could have been part of this element series like "I am" (sun/fire) and "Waters wrath" (sea/water). So you kinda surprised me a bit with this "base elements in their basic form" portrayal.

In here I like mostly the rock in the middle which looks to me a bit like a miniatyre Earth (a globe). Those moss parts being continents and the solid rock parts being the seas.

The elements are coming indeed. And not quite like expected. That's good, that means I can surprise people every now and then. I wanted to aim for something more simple with these.

The whole rock=Earth symbolism was new, I didn't think of that at all.
