I always felt I could do this series much better. (You find the old version here www.deviantart.com/loulin/art/…) That said, almost everything that could go awry in the making of this did go awry. I got stuck a couple of times with the lineart, the background colours were difficult to tone, the foliage went on strike, difficulties with fir… the list is a mile long. But when all is said and done, the result however isn’t half bad. Rather satisfied for once.

Size: 30x40 cm / 12x16 in
Time: Almost 40 hours over 12 workdays (as always not counting the time looking for good references or moments waiting for paint to dry)

We rarely see you do "reruns". But as you said it yourself, you definitely could and did better. This is much more "lively" and have more details, colors and motifs. I personally like the foliage and deer most.

There you are! Nice to see ya, it's been so quiet frorm you lately (or that's how it seems anyway). What have you been up to?
And yes... I used to be quite adamant about not returning to older art but I am chaning my opinion there - especially when there is a good hunch that I can make it better. The old versions are ok but I often felt they were a bit empty - apart from "Water" who was the only one sporting some life. Well.. I'm changing that tnow, although I realise it's going to be quite impossible with "Fire".
The tree foliage was a nightmare to paint.

Yep, have been otherwisely busy. At the same time I have tried to continue my armor project and draw too. But now that I use 2 hours every day just for driwing to my work and back, days seem to have become much shorter. I managed to upload one new drawing yesterday though.
Fire and living creatures can indeed be a challenge unless you use some fire spirits, "living flames" or some similar sorts of "beings". Just a thought.
