You'll get there. I just wish I could finish things. I have loads of bits and pieces started I just can't get them finished. Though I have been making some head way inking.

lol I know how that is, I tend to try to finish as much as I can, so I don't have hundreds of half finished things hanging around - though most of what I start STILL never gets finished XD

Problem, I have. Is with everything going on, I only seem to manage small periods of time to sit down and work on stuff. So instead of finishing or adding to existing works, it's easier just to keep sketching.

The trick is to try and not let it stress you out because often stressing out about it doesn't make it any better.

(... I'm officially typing this for the second time because Danny distracted me, caused me to refresh the page accidentally, and the comment went poof )
Anyway... WOW! This came out VERY nicely. Glad to see you getting the hang of photoshop! The white iridescence seriously came out well, I'm glad you got that down! The shading is amazing, it looks super dimensional and utterly professional. I like it
If you don't mind (and since I don't have you on MSN), I have two suggestions (One's since been repeated by M-Tarachand -- I would have had it in first if the stupid page didn't refresh )
1) You discovered the texture tool! I used this a lot when I first started photoshop. It feels incredibly convenient because you can seemingly put a lot of detailed texture in all at once.
The problem happens when you look closely and see that the texture in no way bends and contorts with the shape of the object. It winds up looking very cheap and last-minute. Generally these textures are best left to flat surfaces that are at no angle whatsoever (like text art and website backgrounds.) HOWEVER, there is a way to use them to make them look good. It takes a bit more work though:
1 - Have the flat colors down in a layer. The layer should ONLY consist of the flats you want textured, just as you would have if you normally applied the texture through styles.
2 - create a new layer RIGHT ABOVE the object you want textured, and paint a blob over ONE of the shapes that you want textured on the other layer.
3 - Create desired texture in your new layer via fill bucket or by layer style. If you do layer style, create an additional (third layer) and merge the additional layer with the one with the texture (layers 2 and 3, NOT your first layer!) so that you gain completely control over the layer (similar to rasterizing text.) This makes it so you can no longer edit the "style" but there's a good reason for it.
4 - Right click layer and click CREATE CLIPPING MASK. This is an amazing tool in photoshop. I live on it, lately! The blob will magically be trimmed to cover only the areas painted in the layer behind it!!
5 -- Here's the magic part. Go to Edit > Transform. Play around, especially with perspective, distort and warp. With enough practice you will actually get the texture to MATCH the shape, almost as though it were 3D!
6 -- Finally, do any shading necessary on your textured layer, or, shade the layer beneath the texture and use a filter such as multiply or screen on the textured layer to let it give the layer beneath it a nice, shaded, textured effect
... Sorry that was so long XD But it's worth a shot!
Oh. My second suggestion (the one Tarachand mentioned)
I have a funny feeling this happened when you took away your lineart, because it used to happen to me all the time. The face is colored WONDERFULLY, but I think it lost some depth and detail with the lineart. The eyes in particular need shading so that we can appreciate his expression and majesty!
Disappearing lineart detail can be incredibly annoying. A few times I even decided to copy the lineart JUST over the face and smudge it on a separate layer just to maintain some of the effect. But if you don't do that, you just need some deeper, darker shadows (usually either grey or something to match the darker colors in your environment)
Either way, It's really hard to explain what I think you need to adjust in the face. Easier for me to show you --

Ok, that's all Hope it's helpful!

lmao yeah, I worked for a long while on his face XD
WHOOO BOOK COMMENT!
What I normally do with textures is duplicate the layer after coloring, then texturize the lower layer, then adjust the upper layer's opacity so it is very subtle - but warping it might work too hehe
The line art has literally been completely deleted from the file XD *Deleted all layers I wasn't using to make it less confusing*
Everything's been redone pretty much since I decided to go lineless - I MIGHT uploading the partial WIP for those interested XD

Is the linked, graphic suggestion helpful, I hope?
Sometimes if I think I need a layer but I don't want it getting in the way, I make a folder and move it in. Folders make everything easier!
If you warp an overlaying texture, you NEED to use a clipping mask on the layer above the flat colors. Clipping masks are like using a select tool to monotonously trim a picture, or the quick select to select a very rough, probably flawed area for painting -- but the clipping mask is actually flawless. It's like the ability to dodge and burn but with brushes and anything else you can imagine. Staying in the lines = not necessary, because it uses the exact opacity of the layer beneath it. When I found out about it (which was rather late) I was floored that I had not known about it earlier.

I think I did pretty well on his wings - the iridescence kinda like oil on water or on the surface of a bubble or on opal. Yay El's wings! *plays with them*
XD yes they may both be straight but dammit they are a hot pairing *cough*
