Description [[[ I HAVE CREATED LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!! ....ok maybe not but seriously!...fullview PLZ?! and if you want to see the nitty gritty details, download ]]]

When the clash of swords echo,
When the journey chasing the past ends and,
The journey to know today begins;
One soul seeks another,
And pledges sworn friendship to another;
One mystery begets the next and,
The doors of fate are opened.

YOU ARE FREE TO SEVERE THE CHAINS OF FATE THAT BIND YOU.
There is a legend and a myth about one known as the Moon Child. It comes from ancient times full of tyranny and hardship. When Winglies, magical beings with wings of light, believed themselves superior to all others. These terrible people held rule over vicious creatures known as Virage and none could defeat them until there came an uprising of seven heroes. With magnificent armor and weaponry they held the spirits of dragons and thus command over the creatures and elemental magics. They defeated the great Melbu Frahma from ruling all...or so it was thought.
As ten thousand years later when nothing but fable was left and prophecy of the blessing of the Moon Child's birth history seemed to repeat itself. When a mysterious figure known as the Black Monster crosses paths with a young hero and the truth of the Moon Child is slowly discovered. As Melbu Frahma finds means to regain his power and attempt to use this destined Child to gain goddom and destroy all and recreate his own 'utopia'. The Dragoons must rise again to defeat this ancient, deadly Winglie. They must rise again to save The World.

Water. Water is an exuberant and youthful person. Never to be held back and always flowing forwards with their emotions, they may seem brash or even perhaps fickle at times but do not count out how loyal and loving they can be. It is their heart that drives them in the end. Towards passionate pursuit of their goals. They are free people who do not care to be caged and look for the next adventure over the horizon. With a bit of helpless flirtation to them at times, and a means to draw the attention of others.

Light. The archer and the soulful healer. Light is a person of kindness and caring with a heart ready to nurture and stern in its defense of those Light cares for. Ready and supportive, Light loves in a way that lasts beyond death to whatever is held within Light's heart. A last of a line, a particular spirit in its choosings as to just whom holds its powers. Light brings out the best in others and helps them to shine. And holds a most treasured secret.

Darkness. The mysterious and powerful. Darkness is an intriguing figure wearing the mantle of mystique. An ancient being that seems to hold more knowledge about past occurances and truths than one might expect from any other. With a persona that can sometimes seem harsh or dispassionate and cold, Darkness may rub others wrong but none can deny it respect. Darkness holds magics that can vampirically steal the life energies of foes to replenish those of allies and strikes fear into enemies by its mere presence.

Thunder. A driven but focused soul. Whether in the pursuit of power or of self-discipline, the main wish of this dragoon always seems to be their defining path. Thunder is wise and often quiet to sometimes being over-looked but when the time is right, simply strides forward and lays a proverbial hachette to others thickets of confusion. Tempered with a wry sense of humor at times but kind and a paternal figure to those around it. Yet when Thunder's ire is tested, you do not want to be on the receiving end of its wrath.

done for *AzraelEvangeline & =yami-caffeine 's Mythology Contest : [link]

Holy mackeral tabbies! @.@ I got it done!!!!!!!!!! eeeeeee thank goodness!!!! I've had this sucker musing around in my mind from shortly after Erin and Gracie announced their contest! I couldn't resist trying to play on the Dragoon myth. I've ALWAYS loved guessing what sorts of characters would make good dragoons due to their differing personas. I instantly knew I wanted to cast Isilme and Amaia as Light and Darkness and Aiko HAD to be Water! lol Even after reading that he doesn't particularly care for deep water, Aiko is too perfectly water. He's so spunky and playful and has that light-hearted arrogance of "hey, I'm the best! love me!" just like Meru...he reminds me so much of her lol...So adventurous and seeming upstart and brash and frivolous and yet with so much character and true heart behind the exterior. One you can count on beyond doubt to help you..and to keep your spirits up because they just don't care to be down themselves . And Amaia makes an amazing Darkness....he once was a villain if I recall correctly and was "tamed" by Isilme to the side of good..and yet he can still be somewhat "dark". His ghostwalker abilities to cast fear into others is like some of the Darkness magic and then he has some vampiric abilities like some of the other magic. And with him being this whole mysterious being as to whom he REALLY is ...it's just like Rose. A guide from the past living again. And Rose was so in love it was like her soul resided with Zeig...and well, Isilme has Amaia's soul. [I tried putting the phylactry in the image ] and Isilme....well he's an archer...and he's kind and compliments Amaia. And since he's also one of the last moon elves...I thought that kind of complimented Shana's being the Moon Child...this strange extra phenomena about whom he is and whatnot...and Miranda held a position of power and royalty which he seems to kind of get to have being on a trusted council and all. And Shana and Shirley both loved sooooo deeply and true and full..like he loves Amaia. Thunder...well for one it's mainly held by martial artists so that lend me towards Antha of course. But too, Haschel was this kinda..parental figure and it seems like Antha keeps a lot of people in line. She's really wise, like he was, and powerful when needed to be. She just seemed a very good fit. I debated on whom a few others could be....thought Azrael'd make a good fire but she wasn't and option and figured Fallanar would be a good Wind but never decided too soundly...these four I knew for certain were perfect....and well it was already a large image to be trying to cram stuff in lol so I stuck with it
Amaia's pose was kind of hard to tweak especially with no direct reference other than knowing what I wanted in my head lol....Isilme was simply taken from a profile of a figure in my anatomy book then I repositioned the arms/hands and let his feet dangle since he's "flying". Amaia came from a mix of Cao Pi, Cao Cao, and old art I'd done of him lol....and Antha's from Zhang He...and my bro helping out with her hands lol! I really love how Aiko's dagger turned out....THANKS JJ for helping make it look even WICKEDERERERER lol And Amaia's face and hair looks cool...I'm glad people seem to think Antha looks pretty because some of her drawings she's so gorgeous!...Isilme seems persistent to give me issues but he looks pretty and I like how his armor turned out in the end .... the background was to represent storm clouds....as if often shown in the background or at least suggested...in Dragoon pics...and well when you mix Water Light Darkness and Thunder...what do you get but a storm? lol....and then yay for color splashes ..... oh and do excuse the pun on the title...but I do think I was insane for taking this on and lost some of my sanity on it lol...and they say the power of the dragoons' spirit is insanity based so hey! In the end this took a lot of work and I put a LOT of freaking time into it....so I'm sitting back now...and letting it do the rest of the talking....or I'll keep on rambling lol

Enjoy

ps. I'd really like to thank a few certain people especially for this! ~Aikurisu for his lovely "blade tutorial" good god, my friend, I'd have been lost without you! lol My dear, dear brother, ~PrinceAtokOfBasil for his constant council throughout from planning to finale. I must've asked him everything from what he thought of my choices for which Dragoon would be whom to hand poses to how things looked steps along the way to armor and blade design and how accurate characters looked...gosh I pestered him about everything as my "expert" ...if it passed his approval, I figured it was good lol . Thank you so much to Kristen *kmcgeijyutsuka for taking peeks along the way and helping me stay encouraged. Getting a "WOW!" from you kept me going, darling! Thank you Cari ~Iyadaethras for being my constant cheerleader. And thank you Mousie, =MadMouseMedia , for making me step back and find the fun and humor in it all by calling Aiko "that homie in the corner" lol! You guys..this wouldn't have blossomed without you!!!!! THANX!

Lineart roughly 6 hrs; whole roughly around 40hrs; drawn in mechanical pencil on three taped together pieces of 8.5x11" paper; painted in PSP7; roughly 40 layers in the end. And with lots and lots of love?

As to the drow's position and expression. She is supposed to have less emotion outwardly showing and supposed to seem more "stonefaced" and "calm" because that is part of her persona..being very calm and also it is of Thunder to be wise and determined but almost like a "shadow" to a lot of the other Dragoons...not always seen or remembered until something important comes up and suddenly they're there just when you need them. Aiko, the Water, I wanted to have almost a "spotlight" on him due to his personality and water's spunkiness...and the pair in the middle are mates so I wanted them close together, and then the drow is supposed to be the furthest back in the image--though I sorta screwed up that perspective some heh --as a support just coming in. Though, I suppose with how many people seem to be looking to her, I can't blame anyone for wanting to see a bit more out of her in the image I think with how intense the others are, her lack of quick intensity makes her seem a bit more "drab" in the emotions shown in her face. The one in the back with the somewhat worried expression was one of my favorite expressions to work with and his extra emotion in his features set at the center was a hope to make the picture come across with more impact...especially with his eyes cast towards his love.

awe! I'm honored...nice comment about the vampires there lol... and well, I'm glad you really like how I showcase elves. These, of course, being others characters, have to have credit due to their owners...but I'm truly honored that my elves have special impact for you though I'm not entirely certain what it is I do

mmm yes...when I did the background I did somewhat rush it and had planned to make it more visible that there were storm clouds and lightning back there...but in the end dulled it down drastically compared to the people since they were more of the main focus and I was rushing just to finish the image heh. Though I can understand your wish for more in it. And there are more than a few little rushed mistakes within the piece so I definitely call you fair in calling me on them

if you're drawn in, even for a stuttered moment, then I feel I've done my job in at least some degree ..and I thank you for that

I'm deeply honored for receiving your first critique and thank you for taking the time to do so! I definitely find it fair! Thank you for the compliments and the criticism of things to watch out for in the future!

I'm glad I could help you - if anything else, just a small bit. You're very welcome I know I don't always comment on peoples works, but that is not to say that I don't look at them.

I hope I wasn't too harsh or anything. It's so hard to be a proper critic when I don't have all of the thoughts and meanings behind the work as you do, but I did try to be fair, and I'm really glad you deemed it fair also

it did help and I know what you mean there hun. And I trust that you do look and I'm always honored for the comments and favs you give

nah, you weren't too harsh don't worry hehhe ^^ and I know it's really hard to try to critique things...it's hard when you're trying to balance between giving tips and compliments and indeed trying to understand what the artist felt in their piece. But I think it was really fair! And I enjoyed the insight and your opinions on it!

lol, I know. It's been a long while since I said I was going to check out this piece. So here we are.

Overall, this is a nice effort and is step up from what you have in your gallery before it. Nice effort especially on the armours and weapons, although I feel some careful straight outlining of the darker blue armoured character's sword could help define its edges better. To give an idea, I simply made an extra layer and added three straight lines over it, while blending their ends so they melded with the shape of the blade: [link] Of course, the other great thing about doing it this way will help give you a better visual of how the shape of the blade should look by the end, in case if your blurring of the tones takes it a little out of shape.

One other thing too is that I'd probably try to brighten the black layer in the background, as it feels misplaced. (Maybe a dark grey so it doesn't conflict with the different lighter colours?) But yeah, that said, I think you did an awesome job with the chick's armour and that bow the one guy at the back in holding.

Anyhoo, glad my tutorial proved helpful.

it's ok, hehehehe worth the wait to hear what ya have to say

lol yeah, it's definitely better than other metallic attempts I'd think though I know I've got a long way to go.... oh..wow yeah...that makes it more like a sword huh ....I SUCK at straight edges so badly heh...they frighten me lol but I definitely see how it made it look..sharper...not only "crisp" as an image but sharper as in the sword looked more deadly heh... so it's kind of like making an extra...."lineart" for it?

it was supposed to be a cloudy stormy sky back there...like "black thunderheads" storm, you know?...and I left it darker and more bland trying to really accent the characters themselves more than anything else though a lot of people say they wished the background had more attention....my bro's going to be commissioning me to work on a Dragoon pic of his character so I'll try to make the "cloudy background" more appealing in it heh thank you a lot of people seemed to like her decently and really favor the archer as well though not really focusing entirely on her armor or his bow! lol!

it was a great help ...it at least have me some sort of direction of where to try to go with things as I was lost just staring at it going "dear god o.O how am I going to do this?!?!?!" ...I know that I still have a lot of work before I'll be "great" or anything but hey!

Glad to know, and speaking of waiting long... apologies. XD

I remember when I first started adding perfect straight lines to define things, I was nervous about it as well. Though depending on what you use such an easy technique for, it can really make the difference. You can tell that from my own works, as the first weapon concepts I made were purely done by hand, while the later ones adopted the lines. Cut back on time too...

I get that feeling a lot too when I ask myself how I'm going to do certain things. But if I work at them long enough eventually things will fall into place. Just takes time.

lol it's ok, I know you're busy....and it's always worth the wait to get to hear from you my friend!

hmmmm...I'll have to try to maybe just play around with doing that in a weapon sketch sometime...just draw the weapon directly as the subject of the piece as you've done with your weapon concepts and just follow right along with your tutorial again and try adding those straight lines in there....after all , my brother commissioned me to draw his one character Dragooned so I'll need some practice....

lol yeah, time and patience, no doubt ....I just don't have a lot of self confidence so I'm always nervous I'll screw up

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to PoldalleLovesnare [2009-07-14 13:43:23 +0000 UTC]

lol, when I'm in the doldrums my self confidence is about on par with... something not confident. But anyway, it's not really a matter of screwing up that gets me, but rather art blocks where I'll look at something and say 'I can't do this' then give up.

Good fortune with that commission too.

yeah I get really fussy about things like that...keep staring at it and going "oh gods...I can't do this , I can't do this" but, like with this Dragoons pic, having friends and my brother look at it periodically while I worked on it step by step and having their encouragement helped a lot!

awe thanks bud!

I think you did a totally awesome job on these guys! I'm not real familiar with the characters or with Dragoon, but I can see even without reading your description what connections you put between all the characters. It's an awesome crossover. The colors are just amazing. That blue armor looks like it was hard with Amaia since it's darker, but it looks great. I really like that one alot, though I have to admit that my favorites are Isilme and Antha. But really they all turned out so well. I can see all the love and creativity that you put into this. I knew you could do it!!

well I'm glad that you can recognize connections even not knowing either subject--Dragoon or Erin and Gracie's elves--too well. and actually lol Amaia's armor was one of the easiest Everyone seems to favor Isilme and Antha...which is funny cuz I favored Aiko and Amaia o.O...well Aiko's armor is a lil peculiar...but I worked on him first for everything--his wings are still my favs--and went to the right from there. And Amaia's face was my favorite for how it turned out But I'm glad people like Isilme...he's such a challenge for me lol.... thankies hun

wow I hoped you named them all. There is nothing worst then forgetting where you put what lol.

Also I realy enjoy looking at your progress with your wip. It is interesting to see how others do it.

The detail you put into this is very nice. the way you placed them was well done too. YOu can see abit of the personalities show through with each.

I realy like how you did the lights armor. but haveing said that I think they all look very good.

Lastly I must say good luck with the contest, I can tell you haved worked very hard on this piece

lol that's the most layers I've ever used on any pic heh.... and yeah...I did ...and only a couple of times did I accidently color on a wrong layer but usually I caught it quick enough to fix it heh

yeah ^^ I wanted to share all the WIPs I saved so that anyone that would like to could see how it came to fruitation heheh I always think it's really neat to see how pieces come together ^^ I debated trying to make a animation of it coming together but then it wouldn't have included the different lineart sketches I went through so I just went with sharing all the links I'm glad I did if at least one person looked at them and enjoyed it!

Thanks hun. I was really particular and fussy about each lil step along the way of this lol...I was really trying to showcase the personalities of the specific dragoon types and the characters as best I could in a nice blend It was really interesting working on the armor too because I ended up gender-swapping each one! lol...Water, Darkness, and Light are all women in the game and I made em three boys here and Thunder's a guy whereas here I made it a girl! o.O...lol so I tried to blend different attributes of the original dragoon's armors and then something of what the characters tended to dress in too until I came up with a decent enough design lol

I really love how Light's armor came out too It's funny because my brother and I were both fussy about his boots the most...but when I colored them they became one of our fav parts! lol! and I like Water's big dagger a lot

Thanks for the good luck wishes hun and the indepth comment As well as thanks for the fav! I'm so glad you like the piece

yeah it is an older game, so you have to take that into mind when you consider some of its graphics compared to some that are done now, but still.... yeah...ebay or Amazon or something ... uh...I have never played any of the final fantasy games besides FinalFantasy:Tactics ...but I know it was credited as "SONY's FinalFantasy"...you have three people you can take into combat with unique abilities/specialties to them and different weapons and combos and you can switch out just whom they are out of battle but not in battle...from what I understand of FF it's really close certainly

lol well a lot of my "babblings" were designed more to try to help out those who haven't played the game and whatnot to try to understand why I paired the characters to those specific dragoons and all hehheh I couldn't resist the idea..as I've always really loved the game and found the different Dragoon Spirits fun to try to guess what characters might belong to which so ...
lol yeah it took me a LONG time to do but I'm glad everyone seems to be liking it hehehe.... awe thank you! and good luck with your entry too hehehe thanks for the fav btw
