Description
Well... after my work on the marty figure, I figured I would go ahead and tackle the billboard. I started out with a capture of the billboard image from the DVD and attempted to sharpen and fix it so that when I printed it, out on a sheet of paper it would be the right size and shape. I glued the printed image onto a small sheet of mat-board (I like mat board for building because it's very rigid and comes in various thinknesses). After gluing, I cut the mat-board out along the edges of the image itself. Then I went from there. I built up the billboard from my reference pics. I ran out of scrap matboard and ended up using a peice of cardboard from a legal pad I had. I cut out ribs for the back and couldn't find any good reference pics of the back of the billboard before I started work on the back side. After getting all the pieces cut and glued into place I proceeded to prime, sand and paint it a flat white. After the painting was done, I printed up another image and cut it out. I then spray-glued it and put it into place. My next step on this section I'm finding is taking the longest time. Coming up with good lampshades for the top of the billboard. Here you can see my attempts. Starting from left to right (center image) I first tried sculpting a lamp shade and it didn't quite look right and was a bit too small. Then I figured I would try making a mold. I tried various materials to get the round bowl like shape and couldn't find the right shapes at all. The third one from the left was the end of a permanent marker and a paint brush end... too skinny... the next two were a done using a round head furniture nail with a bit of sculpey on the top... too flat... finally the last three on the right are what I'm gonna end up using.
