Long haired Trunks looks better than the short haired one. And the addition of beard sums up everything.
Short hair make him look like a boy that is focused on his appearance.

In Super, the boyish look was the second biggest issue I had with his character design, It was suppose to be 14 years later but he looked younger than he did in DBZ. The biggest issue I had however was the inconsistency with his hair colour. I prefer the purple.

Not only that. Although Trunks in Super seems more connected to his people (In Z he gave me the impression of a narrator that was telling a story he didn't live personally) and his, well, future, sometimes he seemed immature, naive and teenagerish for a 31 years old man.

That is a great observation. His character development, maturity wise, is indeed backwards. I loved a lot of things about about the Zamasu/Trunks arc: the tone of the arc in general was dark, almost like they tried to emulate the Trunks OVA. Which in my oppnion is one of the best pieces of content in whole of Dragon Ball. I feel like they dropped the ball on major aspects. The ending was terrible, using Goku Black instead of Future Gohan Black and indeed the (lack of) character development of Trunks.
