Description Software used: Apophysis

I've got so many of Hilary's fractals saved in my fractal resources collection because they are all fabulous and great source of inspiration! Last night I got lost in a tweaking process for hours and liked one of the fractals I made but it didn't look quite the way I wanted it to. Today I got up and opened Apo first thing in a morning and bravely faced the 3D settings which remained untouched during the night session. I am cautious about these because DOF effect puts some people off and it bites me in a butt in critiques ("that blurry side of the image looks weird, you should correct that mistake" <--- this kind of comment usually comes up). If anyone cares to see the tweaks I made in the morning, here are the images compared (left is the one I made during the evening, right is the version I came up with in the morning):

(Basically, I applied some depth blur and perspective, making the jagged lines smoother but losing some details in the bargain.)

I suppose that crediting pillemaster 's tutorial is due, since plangkye 's flame is kinda based on that style. It's interesting how both their galleries showcase fractals that breathe surgical precision, a neatly ordered chaos in decisively structured patterns. I like to respectfully dissect and gut their flames because I can almost feel the brilliant mind behind the intricate structure, plus I get to learn so much during the process

P.S. Higher resolution for bigger prints is coming soon!

Thank you for all favourites, comments, critiques and devwatches! It means a lot to me.

Great work, you've really inspired me to start playing around with fractals.  Only been at it for a day, but I'm really enjoying getting lost just sitting playing with all the settings for hours on end listen to some old school trance/techno.

Thank you! I am so glad to hear that Keep on playing, it will take a while to get some decent results but it's definitely worth the time! Trance is a good choice for fractal art! If you're into some "alternative" stuff, I highly recommend Infected Mushroom (Israeli psytrance) and their Vicious Delicious album

Haha, Infected Mushroom is usually my main choice of music when I'm getting creative, paricularly when it's abstract/scifi stuff. Great band. Actually getting to grips with apo quicker than I was expecting. It's nice that there are so many tutorials on here to guide me in the right direction.

What a coincidence!

Yeah, fractal community is great in this way. Many artists share their knowledge and people are usually willing to help you out. If you are interested in, you can check out this list of a few useful fractal tutorials that I compiled (with examples of fractals that were made with the tutorials). It's mostly tutorials that helped me really understand Apo when I was a beginner, so I recommend it to everybody who is just getting familiar with the software:

Project Educate Fractal Week - Apophysis TutorialsAs you might have noticed, this week of Project Educate is dedicated to fractals.
In this news article, I would like to present tutorials for Apophysis and show you examples of fractals made with these resources.
I hope that this way I'll bring your attention to resources you've never tried to work with or (in case you are already familiar with these) show you a new possibilities of what can be created according to that particular tutorial.
There is not enough space to feature all the wonderful tutorials and I am forced to make a selection of just several of them. The key for selection is me being already familiar with them, thus recommending to you some of the tutorials that helped me a lot.

This is so pretty. It makes me think of a surreal leaf from another planet. ^_^ It also, from a far, takes the appearance of a cobra or even a pod of sorts. Love the colors and the different detailed lines. it makes it pop of the screen and take a life of it's own. Well Done

I'm glad to see other people besides myself give some thoughtful and creative commentary.  I appreaciate it how you looked at someone else's artwork and were able to make out some things like leaves and a cobra.

Please continue to feed other artists with thoughtful commentary.  There is a great famine of thoughtful commentary at times.

You are beyond correct on that point. I like to use my imagination to a point to exceeds the point of greatness. It helps me share loving and warming thoughts with us to help, hopefully, lift their spirits in their times of need. It's not a lot, but it's all I have to give. My compassion and love of others art is one of my best abilities I possess. I try to share it with others instead of keeping it selfishly to my self.

I feel the same way as you, I love to give thoughtful and interpretive commentary to artists because I know it will give them a feeling of relief and being quenched.  I love to see how it makes them feel when I give them the commentary that I do.

I feel the same ^_^ It's so rewarding to hear that they appreciated the comment and that it made them feel more accepting of their work. It's rewarding, in my point of view, to both them and I.
