Description
Made with Apophysis
Yup, I've skipped a day, I was sick and stayed over at my SO's place (he was taking very good care of me), so I didn't get around to making/posting an artwork. Oh well.
Artwork. I'm sort of getting back to my sleep paralysis experience I've had about a week ago. Somehow, I made myself close my eyes because I knew if I opened them, I'd see someone standing over me (very common hallucination that happens during sleep paralysis). Then I just waited for the paralysis to go away, until I could finally move. I suppose it's fitting, getting back to the dark theme today, as I'm still battling some demons that stick around during my waking state. Sometimes I find it difficult to believe that people genuinely like me, want me around, want to take care of me, that everything is okay.

First of all, I don't know if you need to hear this now or not, but everything is okay. Your artwork is beautiful. And people do want you around.
With that said let's get back to the critique. Starting with the ghostly and almost ash color scheme I say you did a great job of finding the right tones for someone lost in a nightmare. The white blotches around the area are also a nice touch as they give an almost blinding or weakening feel to whoever gets pulled into this piece. Now let's talk about the main focal points. I see a lot of your artwork has flower-like shapes in them; deliberately or not. In the righthand corner, I see swirls that remind me most of an orchid with its bell-like tongue in the middle. The other focal point is a creature of some kind. Because of its association with burning ember colors, I'd say dragon, a strong and in some ways terrifying being that threatens to burn to the ground all you hold dear and to conquer it for its own. I could be wrong of course but that is what I see. There are few mistakes to be made here, but if I had to point out a few there is a sparking swirl in the right corner I don't quite understand. It looks like a claw but it is displaced from the main focal points so I have no idea what to think of it. Another is that while I like the whitish-gray blotches, they seem to to be on the same layer as the focal points which kind of misplaces the picture a bit by making the whole thing seem flat. Besides these very small smudges, in my opinion, it is still a lovely artwork. Your artwork is splendid, and I'm happy you continue to make it, but try to get some sleep too when you can so that you can stay healthy.

I love the muted palette - gives wonderful, yet eerie atmosphere!
I hope you feel better soon!
