I've decided that I'm ready to begin one of my ambitious projects: A comic that concludes The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo my own way, which I wanted to make in response to the polarizing reception of Scooby-Doo and the Curse of the 13th Ghost. I didn't just want to make this for myself, but for every Scooby-Doo fan who felt that Curse of the 13th Ghost was even a little bit of a disappointment.
My story will still feature an aged-up Flim-Flam McScam and Asmodeus as the 13th ghost (complete with the backstory if being a corrupt ancestor of Vincent Van Ghoul), but other than that I intend to tell my own story, which will be filled to the brim with easter eggs, nods, and gags that I'm sure will please Scooby-Doo fans of all colors.
Only two specific conditions have been requested for this project. My friend requested that Scrappy-Doo have an active role in the story instead of just being mentioned, which I was going to do anyway because I'm one of the few Scooby fans who likes Scrappy and I was also one of the fans disappointed that the movie missed the opportunity of Scrappy having a comeback that didn't involve making him the butt of the joke in reference to how many people despise him.
The other condition I've been given (which was made by another person) is that Bogel and Weerd be involved. I intend to answer that request as well. One big difference my story has from the direct-to-DVD film is that there's going to be no attempt at rationalizing how the supernatural events never really happened. The gang will be facing real ghosts, Asmodeus isn't going to be Mortifer Quinch in disguise, and Velma Dinkley isn't going to condescendingly harp on her friends for believing in ghosts. Bogel and Weerd will be involved in this story. After all, they were the ones who tricked Scooby and Shaggy into opening the Chest of Demons in the first place.
I came up with many different ways I could begin this story, so I ran a poll to make it easier to make up my mind. The winning vote was to start the story with Scrappy-Doo reminiscing on the adventures he had with his uncle Scooby, so we start with Scrappy in his room looking at a book containing photos of his cherished memories.
We see a picture of Scooby and Shaggy visiting baby Scrappy and his mother Ruby Doo on the day he was born, a group photo of Scrappy with his friends Duke and Annie, and a picture of the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt (included because Dynomutt is Scooby's hero, and given that Scooby is his nephew's hero, I can only imagine how excited Scrappy would be to meet his hero's hero).
Another page shows the Boo Brothers (Meako, Freako, and Shreako), the Grimwood Girls (Sibella, Phantasma, Elsa Frankenteen, Tanis, and Winnie), and Scooby and Shaggy in the Werewolf Wagon when Count Dracula (no apparent connection to Sibella's dad, the vampire with a werewolf baby, or the host of the Halloween party of real monsters Mystery, Inc. once stumbled upon) turned Shaggy into a werewolf to compete in the Monster Road Rally after the original werewolf retired.
Finally, Scrappy finds a page of photos serving as mementos of the time he, his uncle Scooby, Shaggy, and Daphne had to recapture the 13 ghosts imprisoned in the Chest of Demons. He wonders whether they actually got around to getting all 13 ghosts when his mother informs him that his uncle, Fred Jones, Shaggy, Daphne Blake, and Velma have arrived.
To celebrate having solved a certain number of cases (I went with a random number, so I apologize if the number of cases Scooby and the gang have solved to this day is inaccurate), the gang have decided to hold a barbecue at Scooby's sister's house (it was Scooby's idea and Ruby was okay with it).
We also see the new character I warned you all about: Shaggy now has a nephew of his own named Taggy (his real name is Orville), who has been waiting to meet the nephew of his uncle Shaggy's best friend. I do not know what I was thinking.
Hopefully, things will get more exciting on the next page.
