Description
lol, I decided to get tails again while he's sleeping! What a surprise to awake to staring people looking him over. But really he does make one hot fox if you think about it. XD[link]
I wish I could color this but I can't get the right program.
Thanks to this picture was able to be colored. She did an outstanding job at it too! So colorful and nice choice of colors too. Thank you so much!
Here's a link to hers [link]

indeed he does. thats why hes the most often tged sonic character. (you dont have to search very hard, as almost all tg artists have done at least one or two tgs of him.)

I have colored works of art and have seen those same pieces being colored by others. It personally does not bother me in the least. It provides viewers with more variations of the art, and as long as the artist does not mind I feel everyone wins in the end. I think if you went to all of the trouble of coloring this piece, then it would be a shame to leave it on your computer for only you to see. Just my opinion for what that may be worth.

Sure thing, I'd love to see what you have done. Sorry to hear you are having difficulties. I hope it is not anything too serious.

since a computer died on a rage spree, all there is left of it is a version with a relining and basic coloring... not worth, anyway, my version had a much simpler shader than this version, mainly focusing on general shadows and not the wrinks of the clothing. i can upload it still if you want

I am sorry to hear about your computer dying. Several months back I had the misfortune of having one of my hard disks crash on me before I could save many of the PSDs I had created that made up much of the colorings I have on DA. Thankfully my DA account preserved, if not the PSDs, then the bitmaps and jpegs that were rendered from them. It is some comfort to know that all that hard work didnβt just vanish.
I would say to post what you have to at least salvage something of your hard work. Youβre the one who must decide what is best because it is your work that we are talking about. Iβm still curious about what you have simply because I had worked on this line drawing.

excuse the very primitive state, but oh well, [link]
i may start it over from scratch, then post it to DA, or submit this unfinished version

What you have isnβt that bad really. It would not take too much more in layering to add extra shading to it, but even as it stands the drop shadow effect you have on her gives a sort of 3D popping out at you feeling to it. The background color could have been a gradient instead of a solid to give it even more style. I donβt know, if it were me Iβd post what you have currently and give a brief explanation about what happened to you, and then do a new version the way you really intended it to turn out. I have checked out your gallery on DA and know you are very good at coloring, and I have a fairly decent idea of what you might have liked to do with Tails. Thank you for letting me see what you have done.

Well, thanks a lot, i think it is still quality wise a bit below you, i think i should have not lost the time fixing the original lineart and adapting it. The 3D Thing is something i always put on my WIP images so i can work a little bit with more ease, but is nothing more than a reminescent of my earliest works (which had a gradient, the color, the shading and that drop shadow)
Actually, the BG is a really, really subtile radial gradient, but yeah, no one would notice, anyway, that BG was a placeholder, same with the shadows, it was to test the color choices and possible BG's (this image was not supposed to be shown anyway)
I may do put it on DA and finish it later... About that idea you have about what i could have done to Tails... i would love to know what it is, to see if it is what i was thinking.
Again, you're very welcome, you have also some good color works, i love the pastel like colors on them, reminds me of my earlier days when i tried to make the images look like drawings.
Yet once again, it was a pleasure to share
(Ah, and my idea was to make her a nice and sweet background, to put her on a bed in a cute, small bedroom, i think that would be just plain sweet, would love if you thougt on something different, i like to see other's ideas, i valore them a lot)

Your idea about placing her on a bed is a really great one, much better than what I was thinking. I was thinking of her laying down in a flowery meadow outdoors. For some reason the pastoral scene in the original βFantasiaβ with the centaurs came to mind, but something like that I doubt would work as well as the bed. The sheet could contour the body; the color would be warm and feminine. The bed is there not to over power the image of Tails, but accentuate her.

Yours is also kind of ok, but i somewhat wanted to keep fidelity to the original art's description, , now i need ro properly know how to make the bed... i'm sure i will find the way out
Anyway, thanks for sharing your idea I will also will take note of what you said so i can use it on the image

I work with Photoshop CS3, but the overall techniques I use can more or less be used with most paint programs. I layer, mix, match, blend, blur, and erase colors to achieve a certain look. There are certainly people out there that can color better than me, but I try to do the bet I can and always be a little bit better every time I color.

My advice is to experiment with how your paint program works. Know the tools and how best to use them. For example in Photoshop there is a tool called multiply which allows you to paint with any color and not have that color paint over the lines of a drawing. I use that quite a bit. Another thing you can try is playing with a color wheel when deciding on complimentary colors. Here is a link:

I hope some of this works for you.

There really is nothing to be afraid of when dealing with software. If something does not work out you simply erase and start over. With traditional painting you actually have to paint over the mistake and hope it turns out alright in the end.
When I am coloring even something fairly simple I can have up to 10 to 12 layers. Each layer can represent a color or a section of the drawing. I can keep the layers separate as long as I wish and go back to make corrections if I need. This piece needed me to go back and add color to the hair splayed on the floor. I had thought it was merely a pillow she was sleeping on. Simple thing for me to go back, re-sample the colors I used on those layers that dealt with her hair and quickly color that portion of the drawing to make it look like it had been colored at the same time as the rest of the hair.
Anyway, what I mean to say is have fun with coloring your work. Try not to get too worried about how it will turn out. Everything starts out with base colors which look absolutely horrible to look at, but when you build uppon that base, change it, add to it, make it more or less you will find something worth looking at.
