Also headcanon time:
Alicorns are of course the mixture of a pegasus, unicorn, and earth pony. So an Ancient alicorn, or the original alicorn, would be a mixture of the original unicorn, pegasus, and earth pony.
The original unicorn had the whole shimmering white clean coat, long horn, lion tail, and cloven hooves. Very tall, long legs.
The original pegasus was huge, it could take up the entire sky just with it's wing span. It had a lot of wings and i do mean a lot, like over 20 pairs.
The original earth pony was a horse. A really big horse to. Like it could crush a mountain under it's hoof.
It's a good thing that this big alicorn up in the sky was like "Hey, why don't we make these guys smaller."
So they became normal horse sized and eventually evolved into ponies, lol

They are basically a down graded version of an Ancient Alicorn
