Description
My first serious attempt at drawing an actual person; in the past I've hated drawing faces as I've never been able to get them looking like they are supposed to, and that I believe, is the most difficult part about drawing portraits, sometimes you just can't get it looking right and you aren't quite sure what it is, but it's there and it really gets to you. Hopefully I've managed to overcome that with this sketch of Richard Dean Anderson in his role as 'Colonel O'neill' from the sci-fi series 'Stargate: SG-1'. Even though in the show he is now a General, I've called it 'The Colonel' as not only was this is the role he played for so many years, it was also the one that suited the character of Jack O'neill (furthermore, the photo I used to sketch this was one wherein he was still a colonel, so in a way it's technically correct in that respect, lol). The entire sketch was done with a pacer; I think there were 2B leads in it, possibly HB, but most pacer leads I've come across have been 2B so I'd say that's a pretty safe bet. I've discovered that large areas where there is rather light colouring required are a real b!tch with a pacer, lol.
I drew this over two nights so all in all, probably about 4-5 hours or so went into it, and I'm fairly pleased with the end product. I also plan to draw each of the main characters (Teal'c, Carter, Daniel, Hammond [you've just got to have hammond], and possibly Mitchell because of the Crichton factor, heh) in a similar fashion to this piece over the next few weeks, so check back every now and then if you wish.

Very nice.
Though maybe a bit too "smiley" for O'Neill makes him look a bit odd, still he's immediately recognisable.
I'd be glad if I had your talent.
Keep it up, and no one can stop you

lovely piece. if you dont mind me saying, the eyes seem to look kindof bug-eyed due to lack of colour, but the tone and composition is gorgeous

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I haven't checked DevArt in ages. This piece is incredible! It's the best drawing I have ever seen you do (unless you have some hidden away)... The eyes are a little glassy, but you can't really do much about that. Yet again, you have impressed me and the entire nation.

Off to a really great start!
The creases and detail in his neck and face look really good, and I love the expression you captured

Many thanks! yeah, I was pleased with the neck and tried to shade it so that the lines of the lead mimicked those of the actual neck, and I spent a while on the creases to back-up the expression, which after much searching I chose as it really supports his personality.

thankyou, now that holidays are here and I've finally got some spare time on my hands (even though I should be working on my continuing assignments, but meh, drawing now assignments later) I'm hoping to put a few more up in the not-to-distant future. I like the use of contrast in your work btw, very nice
