Description
My first tutorialThis is the technique I use in many of my Apophysis bipolar fractals.
If you have any questions, or if something is unclear, feel free to ask. Also, I'd love to see your results!

I am having so much fun with this. I tweaked it quite a lot and personally felt it deserved a bit of a 3D take so I hope that you didn't mind my liberties in changing the entire flat into more dimensional. Color choices are huge here too and I can't wait to to try it with some other color ideas. I truly appreciate you putting up this tutorial and will definitely be perusing your other ones shortly as well.

I'm using Apophysis 7X version 15B and when you start a new flame or add a new transform it should automatically come with Linear 3D=1.Β I think older versions of Apophysis (not the 7X) didn't have Linear 3D, but with this tutorial you can use just normal Linear, it doesn't make any difference

So on a whim, I decided to try this technique with Elliptic instead of Bipolar because both have sharply defined edges. Exactly the same, except with Bipolar replaced with Elliptic, and with the cylinders and linears re-positioned because the "gaps" are at the left and right instead of top and bottom with Elliptic (alternatively, I could have post-transformed the Elliptic with a 90-degree rotation so it would have been really identical, but I did this instead).
And THIS happened! [link]
Thought maybe you'd be interested to know

Very nice! Yes, you can use elliptic in a similar way and this makes it one of my favourite apo plugins (after bipolar). Thanks for trying!

Question for you... I added the bubble mentioned in step 6 and realized that my pitch wasn't set to 0, which was fine, because the result was awesome. BUT, it's only awesome for one of the bubbles, which is 3D and lovely. The rest are 2D. Is there a way for me to set all the bubbles 3D?
π: 0 β©: 1
Lucy--C In reply to daelly [2012-03-16 23:35:00 +0000 UTC]
Hi! For the 3D you can use zscale on the main transform (the bipolar); try with different values, like zscale=0.3-0.6 (I don't know exactly, just see what looks better). However, when I make a 3D fractal, I usually replace all the linear3D transforms with simple linear, each one with a small zscale value (like 0.2; again, there isn't a rule, you may need to experiment)

This is really fun. It can get quite complex, but I think I will have a lot of fun tinkering with this like I did with `ClaireJones Grand Julian tutorial (which you can see a lot of 'Crests" I have created using that technique in my gallery).
I can't wait to actually find time (and the energy) with the busy life that's taken ahold of me (hence my absence from DA for a few years and not doing much with Fractals...) to sit down and work with this..It's absolutely gorgeous and is full of potential!
