The horror is very subtle and creepy, and the terror is well-paced as it builds towards a frightening climax. It pushes against our comfort zone with a literally unearthly menace that remains unrivaled in its utterly alien portrayal, as well as in the implications the Colour's existence raises about the universe and our place in it as a result. The horrific ways the Colour affects its surroundings and living things is just outright disturbing.Β
It was Lovecraft's personal favorite in horror. It's now my personal favorite in horror.Β
