Description So, I recently downloaded a program called the CCG Maker.  It makes custom cards for Magic: The Gathering.  One of the first ideas that came into my head was a custom card for Sonic the Hedgehog, who fits right in with the red portion of Magic's color pie (with a large helping of white and a little bit of green). The red part corresponds with Sonic's love of freedom and determination to live life by his own rules. The white stems from Sonic's strong sense of justice and penchant for championing those too weak to defend themselves. As for the green, well, he prefers natural places and really doesn't like it when people like Dr. Eggman try to conquer and destroy nature.

While designing the card, I asked myself, "What is Sonic best known for?" The obvious answer is that Sonic is very, very fast, so the keywords haste, double strike, and vigilance just had to go in. He's also got a smart mouth, and he knows how to use it, so he could easily rile up just about anyone if he wanted to; thus, I gave him provoke. Furthermore, he's got the agility and sensory abilities to match his speed and can dodge just about anything, so I gave him an ability that lets him have super shroud hexproof (e.g. the Troll Ascetic's ability). This agility and capacity for super-fast environmental analysis also lent itself naturally to the flanking keyword - Sonic is good at attacking his foes from unexpected angles, thus catching them off-guard, and he's also good at preventing the same thing from happening to himself.

So, what else does Sonic do? Well, as mentioned above, he really doesn't like people like Dr. Eggman. And he's not about to just roll over (no pun intended) and let them just trash the place with their technological whatevers. Therefore, he goes and smashes up Eggman's machinery whenever the evil scientist's up to something funny. And he's also really good at avoiding Eggman's attempts to retaliate against him for this, not to mention Eggman's traps and stuff. So, I gave him some abilities that let him destroy artifacts and protect himself from them, as artifacts are the closest thing in Magic's world to our world's (and Sonic's world's) machinery and robots. The discard ability is meant to simulate Sonic picking up rings. As for Sonic's creature-damaging ability... that's supposed to be his Homing Attack. I intentionally made it cheap so that it could be used over and over again in a single turn, but I personally think it's a little overpowered. At least weakening Sonic somehow will take a bit of the sting out of it, and it can only be used against creatures.

Fun note: this card used to have flavor text. The flavor text was:
"I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!!!"
- Dr. Ivo Robotnik (a.k.a. Eggman) after having his plans foiled by Sonic for the umpteenth time

Unfortunately, I had to remove the flavor text when I realized that Sonic wasn't measuring up to Shadow and added some more abilities to make him more of an equal to Shadow.

One last thing: the artwork wasn't created by me (I wouldn't be capable of creating something like that). The picture is "Living Life at 100 mph " by , so if you want to see that picture at full-size, head over there. (I also credited on the card itself.) And, of course, Sonic the Hedgehog is the property of SEGA. The rest of the card, however, was created by myself.
