Description Just when I thought my abstract landscape paintings could not move anywhere, I decided I would experiment with a blur to create a somewhat realistic, photography-looking water surface type of effect, and I am incredibly happy with how it came out, together with the colors and the texture! Any thoughts, feedback/constructive criticism will be appreciated, as I am thinking of turning this into a series again as I really love making this type of fractals. And of course, thanks to all of you for the amazing support, I possibly couldn't be thankful enough!
If you haven't already, please check out my newest issue of Hidden Fractalist interview right there : Hidden Fractalist Vol. XXXI.Hello everybody and welcome *back* to my project called Hidden Fractalist! Goal of this project is to discover new, rising, and hidden talented fractal artists in the depths of the fractal art community and bring them into the spotlight between other fellow artists and show them some love, help, support and friendship. My today's guest is @Alex-Manning! Alex has been member of DeviantArt for 8 years, and when you browse through his gallery, you'll notice many fractal spirals, with varying textures and fun colors! Let's proceed with the interview., Hello and welcome to the Hidden Fractalist interview! Could you please kindly introduce yourself to us?Hi, I’d like to thank you again Lukas for this interview. It’s an honour to be partaking! I’m Alex, I’m 40 and from the United Kingdom. I mainly use Frax for my deviations, which is an iOS app. It’s pretty easy to use. In other life I’m an AutoCAD technician in Civil Engineering.,How did you discover Fractal Art and why did you decide to make it? Can you tell us about your first steps?I think I have been aware of fractals since school. It’s been a while since I joined dA but I remember when I first joined (on my old account in 2003) that I saw people taking them seriously as art and as a hobby. I was impressed with their results and thought I’d give it a try as I was handy with computers and my drawn art wasn’t really improving.,What medium(s) do you work with? Are you experienced with any other software? For fractals I use Frax. I sometimes add filters or mess with the colours etc. with other apps and programs like Corel Photo Paint, Corel PaintShop Pro or Pixlr.,Do you make your art professionally, or rather just as a hobby? It’s purely a hobby. I’d love to have a creative career but at the moment it’s a way to express myself. I enjoy aesthetics and like to make nice looking pieces.,Do you have any inspiration here on DeviantArt? Are there any favourite artists you'd like to mention? When I first started, my inspiration was users like @Aqualoop31, @batjorge, @BoxTail, yourself, @poca2hontas, and @tatasz to name a few. These days I just like to browse and favourite. There are many talented fractal artists on dA. So many more than I could mention.Digital painting wise, I love the art of Dave Rapoza, @abigbat, @kelogsloops, @PeteMohrbacher, @wlop & @yoshiyaki. Again, a lot more than that but that’s off the top of my head. And in photography, people I am inspired by include @AnthonyPresley, @Pajunen & @newcastlemale.,Do you think you become more skilled and experienced with every new piece?I’m not sure about with every new piece. I know I’ve got less self doubt than when I first started. I know more about what I can do with Frax and what some of the more obscure things do within the software. As I said in the intro, it’s a very easy bit of software to use, at least in my opinion. I don’t have the formulae to learn and experiment with. It’s all randomly generated.,Are you willing to share the process of making any of your fractal pieces? To lead on from the previous answer, it’s mainly a case of cycling through different textures, spectrums, colours and lighting arrangements. I think what I have developed over time is a knowing when things will work and when to stop on one texture (for example) and change something else.,Is there any goal you’d like to reach both with fractals and your artistic journey on DeviantArt?When I was young I wanted to be an artist, though my skills were more computers and maths/science at school. I think that is what has lead to my current job. I don’t really have a goal or dream any more, I just like making fractals and seeing others’ work. Of course, any achievements are gratefully received, but at the moment I’m content to do what I do and enjoy the journey.,When we visit your gallery, we can see a lot of wonderfully crafted Frax spirals! What inspired you to make those?I like the spirals in Frax more than the other shapes as I think the textures between them make more of an artistic image than the actual fractal shapes themselves. I get inspired whilst making them, and love to make images which have resemblance to real world items, which I often use as the title to the deviation.,What is your favourite piece you made so far and why?I think there are a lot I like equally. I like Spectral for its colours and shading.,"Spectral"What was your reaction when you have gotten your first Daily Deviation feature?I was shocked. When I first started on dA it was the biggest dream of mine to get a Daily Deviation. It was something I thought was outside of my artistic skills.,Etch by @Alex-Manning , Featured by @C-91 , Suggested by @LukasFractalizatorGiven August 5, 2018 If you could describe fractal art in one word, what would it be?Endless.,Community Quotes After joining DeviantArt just over a year ago, Alex was one of the first fractal artists that I came across and I was instantly attracted to the fantastic selection of spiral fractals that Alex has and is continuing to create! His spiral fractal work is definitely worth having a good look over as he manages to consistently deliver beautifully designed, colourful and intricate spirals that all look very unique which is no easy feat! I can't recommend his fractal art work highly enough! - @DystopiaFractalArt I try to encourage him, because he is very consistent in his fractal creations. I can only say that it produces beautiful fractal spirals from Frax Pro software. Alex manages to create astonishing textures and make the spirit of the spiral vibrate with beauty. - @Metafractals Alex Manning is a great fractal artist I have favorited a lot of his work! I noticed he does a lot of spiral work, and I like them all. I also like his other fractal artwork that don't have spirals! I truly enjoy his fractal artwork he's very talented Fractalist, I look forward to seeing more of his work in the near future! - @Nestor320 Alex was one of my very first watchers on DeviantArt. After checking out his gallery, I knew I would be watching him back! He is a great aficionado of spirals, as am I. His artworks are filled with many beautiful spirals and other types of fractals. I really love how he takes a seemingly simple fractal and brings out it’s hidden inherent beauty! I always look forward to seeing his newest fractal creations. Alex is also a really nice guy. Great fractals + nice guy = win/win in my book! - @AzureToYou They make the loveliest, most satisfying fractal spirals! - @Maryalice3 Thank you so much @Alex-Manning for the interview! Have you come across a talented, skilled, but unknown fractal artist? Feel free to suggest them to me via note, I'll be more than happy to interview them! Thank you very much for everyone's support, and for reading this issue as well!
