Popeye vs. the Xenomprph.
Back in the late 80s and early 90s, we were no strangers to some really, REALLY ludicrous licensed games or even better, licensed crossovers. So between licensed games such as "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet" or "Dallas" and crossovers such as "Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter" or "Wario Blast featuring Bombarman", it really shouldn't be that big of a surprise that the game known as Popeye 3: WrestleCrazy combined not only Popeye and Wrestlemania, but also threw in the Xenomorph from Alien for an extra kick.
The matchup was so bizarre and random, I couldn't help but draw it, if not for anything else than the sheer ridiculousness of it XD
Also, I wanted to practise fight scenes in my style, there's still so much I need to work on ^^

Of course, the game was released only for old home computers such as Amiga, C64, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum, so not many remember it, but it does exist XD

Blimey! Β I actually never heard of that 'Popeye 3: WrestleCrazy' game? Β So, thank you for not just creating a cool piece of art, but acknowledging me of a game I didn't know of.
Shame these crazy fighting games aren't made anymore (such as ClayFighter or my favourite, Mutant Fighter), to me the gaming world has become kinda limited and not very experimental in terms of the genres they are in. Β Dunno? Β That's just how I feel about games these days.
Be pretty sweet if this game was remade though, and the 'Mae West caricature' could be in it.

Well, the reason you have not heard about it is mostly because it's not exactly a good game... it's quite terrible to be honest, the C64 version looked OK but played terribly, the Amiga version tho, that was a complete pile of shit altogether.
Still, I liked the ridiculous idea of Popeye wrestling a xenomorph, so couldn't resist drawing it at some point XD
As for crazy fighting games, well, one only needs to see how much of a "success" games like ClayFighter were to see the reason here. And it's not like the gaming world doesn't get experimental (I recommend checking Ultra Space Battle Brawl or Blade Strangers), the thing is, only indie developers and smaller studios do thatΒ because they can afford it, bigger studios can't afford the risk, therefore they don't do that.

I remember having WWF Wrestlemania for the Amiga 500, boy did it get me stressed! Β it was the only game in my collection that got my 12 year old self smashing my joystick... erm, if that doesn't sound too odd.
