Description I wanted to learn how to make cute and fuzzy stuffed animals, but I didn't want to buy any furry fabric until I practiced a little. I made a little hamster out of felt and my cat totally FLIPPED OUT over it. It doesn't even have catnip in it. I made this second one for my cousin's cat. Hope her kitty loves it as much as mine does!

Cute! how did you do the ears?

Before I sewed the body together, I cut a slit in the body where I wanted the ears to go. I cut the ears out of felt, folded them in half vertically, and sewed them into the slits from the inside of the body.

I personally don't like catnip for cats. Cats will go bonkers with any toy that either resembles a small thing like mice, or even a tassel or ball They love something they can bat at and will play for hours. I think the best was just having feathers on a string, but they die too quickly and I worry about cats swallowing the feathers.

The cat I grew up with never played with anything but string. Catnip had no effect on him. My new kitty is constantly surprising me with her completely different personality. She'll play with practically anything, which can definitely be a bad thing. I'd never heard of a cat chewing up someone's sandals before.

Hahaha. Well cats do like to keep their teeth sharp also. I don't like how some people let their cats practically get high off catnip and then just laugh at them. Cats are cute in their own way without that. But if some just have no reaction to it, that's good. I just get an uneasy feeling with catnip. Some cats act like dogs though. I find it so adorable. I really need a cat, just can't afford insurance or shots.

Yeah, I can't decide if my cat reacts to catnip or not. She plays with catnip toys, but she doesn't seem to go particularly crazy over it. I read somewhere that catnip only affects like 75% of cats. Maybe I've just had a couple of weird ones.

I'd probably have some weird ones too, which would totally reflect me Maybe it's like some medicines. It only affects certain people, in this case cats.

I want to try making these cute toys though. Who knows, maybe I could sell them. I have some serious animal-loving friends.

You should. They're pretty easy and inexpensive to make. I just used embroidery floss, thread, and felt (I even stuffed it with strips of felt because I didn't have stuffing... but stuffing isn't terribly expensive either). I also got a lot of positive reactions from people who saw it.

how did you make this one?
i want to learn to do one for my cat too ^^

I cut two half-ovals out of felt for the sides of the body. I embroidered on the eyes (you could also use buttons or beads). Then I cut slits for the ears. I cut the ears out of felt, folded them in half vertically, and sewed them into the slits. Then I put the two half-ovals together with the eyes/ears on the inside. I sewed the rounded edges together. I cut a small oval from felt and sewed it around the bottom, leaving a small opening. I turned it inside-out through that opening, stuffed it, and sewed the up the hole.

Hope that helps. You can probably find some tutorials for similar things on google too.

I mad a cat toy for my cat out of old jeans, I think it's been living under my dresser. That is where she puts all her toys. Crazy cat. I used a similar style. I'll post the one i didn't give her that I use for a stress hammie.

Cool! I caught my husband trying to throw out some old, worn-out clothes yesterday. I had to go through them and pick out things that would work for making more cute critters.

I love the photos of your cat. She's so pretty!

I save practically everything. Well clothing. I'll find some use for it. As my teddy bears made out of t-shirts. I have found t shirts go a long way too. So all of my plush will be made of of recycled clothing and such. Much cheaper too.

I made a dog exactly like this, when I was younger. Even the fabric was the same for fur and for ears. Strange

Weird! I actually bought this felt for a different project that I lost interest in. These colors were the only neutral ones I had. I guess they'd make a pretty cute dog too.
