... This piece is the longest time I have ever spent on so far. Four long days spent on lineart and many more days on coloring, shading, and other effects.

I had a lot of difficulty thinking about what background to use here. I wanted to draw the Peak Point Matrix scene where Spike has the final battle with Specter, but it didn't turn out quite what I hoped for. I didn't have the skills nor the time to do it, so instead I made a simple background. I referenced the Ape Escape comic (uploaded in my Journal) and added a circular gradient, speedlines, and a black border. The speedlines were especially fun to draw in.

I drew inspiration from other sources as well, so this piece has a mix of Japanese and American styles. The drawing and shading are based on Japanese anime, but the colored lineart is based on American cartoons (particularly the Ape Escape cartoon being developed by Frederator Studios).

Although this piece isn't good enough to submit in a video game magazine, I learned a lot from it. The "Lock Transparency" option in Photoshop is probably the most important thing I learned. It makes coloring much easier. ^_^
