I must confess, I am not a fan of the series as a whole... DH is the only one I truly enjoy muchly. HBP I don't mind. The reason I watch Rowling so intently is that she has one of the steepest learning curves I have ever seen in a literary artist. The first book was... ok... then the quality went down... but then, with an almighty HAWOOMPH she shot back up in the last two books. I reckon she'll be on my "good writer" list in a couple of books' time (not an easy task, considering she'll be approaching the likes of Robert Jordan and Robin Hobb... she passed Tolkein a long time ago, something only marginally more difficult than passing Meyer.)
Seriously, have you read Robert Jordan's lot? I would definitely recommend him.
