Description
This is the fruits of my attempts at using Adobe Illustrator's pen tool for my line art. My first attempt really, and I know there are some areas where lines may not be connecting, etc etc, but since it's my first go with the pen tool I demand some leeway! Besides, I need your help. Yes, YOUR help!Using the pen tool takes quite a lot of effort and time compared to the normal way I do it. I spent more than two/three times as long on this picture than I normally do. That said, I'm wondering if the effort is worth it? I believe I can eventually cut down on the time it takes to complete a picture using the pen tool if I practice it enough, but if the art isn't very good/people prefer the way it looked before, than I want to know so I don't go bother putting a lot of effort into something that I shouldn't be.
The simpler question is: Do you like the way the line art looks in this picture? Or would you prefer it the way I normally draw it? Honesty is important!
And before I forget, there's been quite a few people who've offered help/tips of some sort, but lately and were right there to answer many of my questions/guide me on this quest. Many thanks to them and to everyone who helped me one way or the other with the pen tool!
In an attempt to get more practice with the pen tool (if people like the way it looks that is), I will be accepting over nine thousand edit requests to this picture! And there's no restrictions, you can ask for anything! Well maybe not nine thousand or ANYTHING, but I'll be accepting more than usual for this picture. Still not willing to add more characters/change the pose (at least not change it very much). So if you'd like to see something in this picture let me know. It's a "basic" picture for a reason, after all!
PS: I know there's no shading. I'll add it eventually!
PSS: Used a reference image to help get the basic pose down for this image.
PSSS: My gosh am I good at backgrounds or what? I should make them professionally. Line line line line color and done!
PSSSS: I'm going to get something to eat now.

I'd like to, but I've long since lost this PSD File, so I cannot make changes to it any longer.

She doesn't wear shoes or socks or anything of that sort. Just bandaging.

She uses the earth as a weapon, but needs her skin to be in contact with it. Thus, no shoes or socks.

Wow, that was like 3 years ago! I'm surprised you remember it. I'll consider your request, but since new outfits are difficult to draw (And I already have two new outfit requests), I'm not at all certain I can do this.

I drew a sock edit if it's of interest to you, although I suppose you'd rather not have the gray heels and toes, if I recall?

Pen tool is the bee's knees, but it does take a long ass time to ink stuff >.<. I like it cos the lines are easy to edit and manipulate, and come out really clean looking.

You are evil Lure! I'm sure Sanae would have prefered to show your new tecnique without being tied up.
Haha, now about the picture, the pose is great drawn and the facial expresion fits really well, the colouring seems diferent, I suppose is the shading you said in the comment, that or maybe it's just me.
And I think the lineart looks great, not too thin and not too thick, maybe looks better than the previous, but still you previous lineart looked good too. Sorry for the long opinion.

I'm glad you like the lineart Raven. Thanks for commenting! And quite the contrary, I quite like the long opinion .

I like this one. She's got an expression that seems neither scared nor angry, which I usually like, but is more to me like the non-verbal equivalent of "Please. You call this bondage? I could do better!"
This is pretty good for a first try using the tools you did, I must say.

I find that the more one uses the pen tool to ink, the quicker you get at it. I've used it a few times and each time I was a but quicker in getting it done. I say stick with it, it really makes the lines clean and neat.

I don't have a steady enough hand as of yet that it makes much of a difference compared to the way I usually ink. I'm working on it though. You'll never get clearer line art any other way.

Part of what I like about your style is the nice, simple shading, clean colours and clean, thick lines. On one hand, some of that last part is somewhat lost here...but on the other, there's also a rounded, organic feel to it that your previous work doesn't always enjoy.
Especially in the face. Her face, her eyes in particular, look GREAT.
So call me wishy-washy, but I'm going to say "Merits further investigation" at this time.
Edits, eh? Well, I've got a few ideas, if you're up to hear them. So, in no particular order~
- Wedding Dress (Nothing too fancy , oh no, just something long, soft and feminine <3 <3 <3)
- Extra ropes on her knees and arms/chest.
- Thick, white OTN gag - The kind I love so much, and that you're so good at ^.^
- Hairstyle alteration...piled up under a tiara, or in bao/dumplings, perhaps?
- Amusing banter with her captor(s). Ex:
-> Sanae: *defiant* You expect me to talk?
-> Baddie: No, miss Sanae, I expect you to be a Dee-Eye-Dee! Holla back now!
-> Henchmen: Oh SNAP!!1!one
- Have her *drumroll, ominous thunder* ...CRACK A SMILE!
Naturally, I don't expect you to do ALL of these. Or any of them, come to that, if you don't like 'em Whaddya say?

LureDA In reply to TheAnoraknophobe [2009-08-13 03:34:08 +0000 UTC]
I'll at very least use it for a bit longer. Quite a lot of people seem to like it, but a good number of people prefer the old style too. I was hoping it wouldn't be so down to the wire!
Thank you for sharing your detailed opinion with me Mr. Phoby. As for your edits, I'll try at least some of them! And that IS a pretty corny joke, so maybe Sanae will crack a smile yet.
