Description Sitting by the window, watching the autumn leaves fall to the ground, she is once again brought back some 50 years in time. She can still remember how it felt to be embraced by her true love on that wintry autumn day, knowing that this may be the last they would see of each other. Tears stream down her cheeks as she looked up to his beautiful face one last time. The harsh sound of the horn from the train told them that it was time for him go with his fellow countrymen to a place far far away. He was so young ... they were all so young. What did they know about war?

Before they parted, he slipped a note in her hand.
“Read it only after I leave”, he said quietly.
She clutched onto the note and they kissed one last time. And then, he was gone ...

As she watched the train disappear from sight, she opened the note with trembling hands. It read simply,
“My dearest love, you shall be the Light in my darkest hours ...”

A tear escapes and flows down a now wrinkled cheek. In her hand, Jean is clutching onto a piece of memory from 50 years ago. She slowly opens her hand and stares deep into an ornate pendant not so different from the red autumn leaves that are falling outside her window. Nestled in the centre of the handcrafted copper leaf, was a piece of the note that John gave her just before he left for war, preserved and memorialized in a crystalline substance. She held the pendant close to her heart and closed her eyes, as if remembering that moment on that wintry autumn day at the train station.

A tap on her shoulder brought Jean back from her reverie. She opened her eyes and smiled affectionately at the beautiful face looking down at her.

“Daydreaming again my love?”, John teases her fondly. He held out his now wrinkled hand to her and she took it.
“The children and the little ones are here”, he smiled.

They open the door to bunch of happy smiling little faces,

“Hi Nanna and Poppa!”
