Description
This is the result of me working with one of my friends on a dragon species. This one is a combination of a squirrel and viper. The scales were hard enough to do in pencil, and then I went and shaded them all individually in Photoshop. Time consuming, but fun (if only in a mindless sort of way). I did find out, however, that I like the colour green.Related content

Yes, it helps. I dont really understand what the single settings do from the description, but that something I certainly can figure out when working on it. hehe. I have three drawings ready where I can try. I'll show you later.

OH, right! XD. Tell me: Do you first make a layer with the basic colouring (green in this cas) and then create a new layer for adding the colour-differences? And then anither one for shadow?

It depends on the colour difference. Bright colours usually mean I put colour differences on separate layers. For this one, and Thunder Running , no different layers for the basic colours. Instead, I'll run about 5 layers for the dragon. In descending order, they run: Pencils, Shadows, Topicals, Body, Membranes. I like incorporating as much of the texture that the pencil work gives as I can, and it makes a huge impact on the colour.
The "Topicals" layer is where I put the eyes, teeth, horns, claws and special scales.
"Shadows" should be fairly obvious. Once I finish flat-colouring, I'll make copies of the 3 lowest layers, merge them into one layer, move it just under then Pencil layer, colour it all dark blue, drop the opacity down to 60% or so, break out the eraser at an 80%, pressure-sensitive setting and start shading - subtractive style.
On the "Body" is where I use the Dodge and Burn tools in shading all the scales. I can never remember what settings I use for them, and they tend to change depending on the colour I'm working with. It always requires fiddling, no matter what though.
The "Membranes" layer is probably one of the most variable ones. I'll use Dodge and Burn on it, as well as your more conventional style of shading using the paintbrush and colour palette. Sometimes I'll lightly erase the pencil lines over them, too.
And I'm very sorry that this isn't better organized. I hope it helps though, and I'll clarify/expound upon anything you want.

The colouring on the structure is very eye-catching, as well that I really love the flying skin between his fingers. That tunred out so well. I dont really see a squirrel, but If you say so, it is. The head really looks cool. Good to see there are differen species of dragons!

Thanks.
The squirrel is a bit hard to see. It's most evident if you look at the toes and legs. Especially the toes. Long, spindly, slender and crooked - and with those distinctive pads on the bottom, too. And a bit of the body posture, as well, with the hindquarters noticeably higher than the forequarters.
See it yet?

Oh wow! Those scales are insanely awesome!!! So realistic! The wings too are really nice, and fit well with the body

I don't remember how long the pencil work took...over a week, at least (I think it may have been more like a month, but I was also doing schoolwork). The colouring took...um....maybe about two weeks or so of afternoons and a few evenings - it took awhile to get the shading where I was satisfied with it.
